Advantages: Cool silver lines, wireless, BlueDisc player, view own photos & dvd-rw
Disadvantages: 40GB small, heavy & larger, cant play old PS2 games, expensive discs
OK well a friend went abroad and brought me an amazing gift in May 2008. It was in a grey 'Sony Style tote bag' which was neat and environmentally friendly i thought (well much better than those plastic bags which are of no use)
Looking down on the black box you can see the spiderman3 styled lettering; i thought well ok thank you very much, because i was debating on getting one but never really had the cash spare, that plus the fact that i was taking prices down at the electronic store for a new Xbox. So i guess my friend had decided for me which is nice! OK back to the console. From pulling the box out i was even more surprised to see a silver picture of PS3, it looked slighty pale kinda whitish at first glance. '40BG' and 'Satin Silver' and 'BD logo' in each corner let me know some of the specifications ... the box and contents was heavy at 6kgs something u could use instead of weights for toning exercise i guess.
The console is sleek silver in colour which is eye catching i think and comes with the usual AC power cord/adaptor so it can be used in UK. A AV cable, USB cable, manuals, and a silver SIXAXIS controller which looks nice on the coffee table. One of the problems i'll mention here is that its 'not' a DualShock3!! which is odd since the sixaxis is now rather dated but still useable so i'll make do.
The machine all plugged up was easy (but being a novice PS2 user i'm bias) and very tidy looking due to the controller being wireless; well not for the first eight hours lol which i was told to charge up due to first time use, my friend told me longer if possible (just like you do when having a new mobile phone) this makes sure you get the maxium play time from the battery and extends its shelf life .. the longer you can use it for the less amount time you have to charge it .. batteries on only be charged so many times before you have to buy a replacement [which i will find out for the next update]
Anyway you get a games machine/PC/Blue ray disc player thrown in one console so it does seem future proof for now. Much better than the HD which sadly lost out; but thats my gain for now lol. But to make the most of this you will need a full HD TV .. for which i have a 26inch LG LCD. This console is amazing for playing the uber expensive BR discs which now superseed the dvds of old and HD discs by offering an amazing 25GB to near 50GB, this allows more storage space thereby storing more data for games/audio quality/picture sharpness 1080p thus showing off every pixel of the highest-resolution HD broadcast! great for movies so u can see every detail on your fav actor/actress. [i'll add more here in update]
Overall i am satisifed with my gift the graphics from games like metal gear solid4, ninja gaiden, burnout paradise are wicked too look at, fast and detailed which compared to the PS2 are a huge level up. Games now have better video effects so you see more film like footage rather than computer generated graphics from other consoles. Movies are jam packed with director commentaries, more langage options etc [which i'll add more too + specs here]
well i'd like some more imput from fellow readers; what more detailed would you like me to go into? and which direction should i head for example comparing to the Xbox/Wii? more on the controller and extra HDMI cables which i brought soon after or heat issues/ventilation/placement of console ... answers on postcard .. please come back for the next 'part two' update (since my typing is hurting my fingers lol) Your comments/criticisms/thoughts will be worth reading.
Summary: latest player to fight Xbox & Wii, outstandin graphics, wireless controller, internet download ready
