I waited a long time before deciding the invest in a Playstation 3 but to this day, I think, after my computer, it is one of the best investments I have ever made.
After owning both a PS1, PS2 and PSP, the PS3 seemed like a resonable choice, although with it's hefty price tag I could get an Xbox 360 for cheaper.
Although some people complained the line up of games for the PS3 was not sufficient, it has really come into it's own in 2009, with a line up of exclusive titles and jaw dropping games. These include games such as Little Big Planet, Killzone 2, Uncharted and Motorstorm.

When you purchase the Playstation 3, in the box, it comes with one wireless controller, at the time I bought mine this was not Dualshock 3 but I do not know if they have included them when you make a purchase now. You also receive a standard cable for hooking up to non high def TVs and an HDMI cable to let you jump into the HD experience immediately.

The Playstation, although big, sits elegantly on your desktop, being allowed to either lay horizontally or sit upright, it has a piano black finish with a Blu Ray drive slot and 2 USB ports on the front.
Another big factor and feature of the PS3 is the Blu Ray drive, turning up next generation gaming a notch.

The Blu Ray drive allows vastly more information to be stored on the disk over a conventional DVD or CD. It can hold up to 25GBs worth of data and this can be seen in games and movies made on Blu Ray as it allows for extra texture details and higher resolutions.

However, the PS3 is not only a gaming machine, unlike the Xbox 360, it has free online player which is a big factor for me, it also has an internet browser, store to buy games from and movie, photo and music playing abilities.

With Sony releasing firmware updates every now and then, the PS3 is improving on it's strengths and demolishing it's weaknesses, becoming one of the best all round consoles you can own.

Summary: It's an all around console and is the best choice if you can overcome the cost and size
