Advantages: Great graphics, great game selection, built in wifi, free online play, Sixaxis wireless controller

Disadvantages: Can't play PS2 games on it.

I decided to buy a Sony Playstation 3 after owning the PS1 and PS2. It also had advantages over the other consoles I was looking at. The PS3 is an excellent console that I am pleased I bought and it is well worth having although it is still expensive at around £280. The console itself looks nice in glossy black and can either stand on its side or be lying down. You can buy stands for them to prevent them being knocked over.

There is a great selection of games for me which cost between £20-£50.The Playstations achievements in games are called trophies and they can be collected from lots of games for completing levels or carrying out set tasks in the game. When you have added people to your friends list you can see how many trophies they have and in which games and compare them to yours. It is easy to send messages to people in your friends list, see when they are online and what game they are currently playing.

The Sixaxis wireless controller is designed for the Playstation 3. It is great that it is wireless and you do not need to keep replacing batteries in the controller but instead you plug it in to the Playstation and it charges. The controller is motion sensitive and can detect movement through six axes. This is used in some games and it is great that you can control a character by tilting the controller.

The Playstation has Wi-Fi built in so you don't need to spend any extra money on an adapter. Playstation Home is a free to access online community where you can talk to other people online, play pool, visit the cinema, go bowling and other activites.

There are a lot of games that have online play and it is great to be able to play against someone else for free. There are a lot of games that have downloadable content e.g. LittleBigPlanet you can download levels that have been made by other users. The console has a web browser installed already which is easy to use.

This console has a built in blu-ray player which is excellent and a standalone player would cost nearly as much as the console itself.

You can store music, videos and games on the 80gb hard drive.

Unfortunately you cannot play PS2 games on the console.

Summary: An excellent console that I am pleased I own.
