Advantages: Amazing graphics, great additional features, Blue Ray, wireless connectivity

Disadvantages: Price, loud fan

Sony's next generation console was well worth the wait from the Playstation 2. I have owned a PS3 for just over a year now and I have so far had no problems with it and to see the quality of the graphics of any game was incredible, and it was such a step up from the PS2. Although Sony was late in releasing the PS3, it was worth the wait in the end, although I did consider getting an Xbox 360 instead. The Xbox 360 came out much earlier and allowed microsoft the oppurtunity to get more Xbox 360's out there before the PS3 was even out. However there have been many reported problems with the Xbox 360, such as the console freezing, so I thought I best play it safe and instead get the PS3 when I had some money.

The PS3 also offers more benefits over the Xbox 360, like free online play and less reported faults with the console in general. Another advantage is that the console doubles up as both a DVD and Blue Ray player too, so for those who wanted both a next generation console and a player for films or photos in HD, the PS3 doubles up and could save hundreds of pounds off buying a seperate Blue Ray player.

With the 60 and 80GB, you can also play both PS1 and PS2 games, so that you can trade in your old PS2 console and not have to worry about getting rid of the games you liked on the PS2, if you wanted to get rid of the PS2 that is.

The design of the PS3 is also very stylish and unique, the black sleek design looks stunning in any room and the sensitive buttons and lighting used look incredible. The 80GB hard drive also provides a huge amount of memory for which to store hundreds of movies, photos, music and game saves. Thats enough to last a very long time. The internet can also be set up to be accessed wirelessly and free of change, so unlike the Xbox360, there is no online charge with which to pay for.

One problem I have noticed with the PS3 is that one some of my games, the fan begins to make a loud noise and will not stop until I quit the game or restart the system, which can be a pain when I'm just looking to have a quick go on it before bed.

Another issue with it is the price, as you are now paying around £250 for the console, whereas the Xbox 360 is avaliable for half that, so for those looking for a cheaper console during a recession the chances are you may prefer to spend half the price and settle with the Xbox 360. If you are after quality on the other hand, then the PS3 is the one of the two main consoles I would recommend, and will surely save money in the future compared to an Xbox 360.

Summary: If you are going for quality, the PS3 should be your main choice
