Advantages: Everything bar the back catalogue

Disadvantages: The back catalogue + new slimline on the way?

If you are a serious gamer and you want a console that is going to be around years then the PS3 is your only real option at the moment. The XBox is good but there are questions as to how long until they cash in and make another one, and with the recent Natal controller announced some are worried they are going to go the route of the childish Nintendo Wii.

The PS3 on the other hand looks set to stay, with games makers not even using half of it's power at the moment, it is scary just how good it might get! The graphics on it are amazing: play this on a 42' Bravia to appreciate just how lifelike it is. The controller is just the right size compared to the chunk 360 remote and will need no introduction to PS2 gamers.

The back catalogue of decent games however is smaller, as a lot of rubbish has been released. The best are great though, with FIFA being the best football game ever, ad Killzone 2, Infamous, GTAIV etc are all classics.

Be aware though that Sony have announced a new slimline version, so if you want the latest it might be best to hold fire for a bit. But then I am sure there will be a premium for that...

Best deal I've seen is £279 + Infamous at Toys R Us

Summary: Buy it!

If you already have a PS2 though you can keep that, you don't have to sell it. And considering the extra cost to have that compatability (the original 60gb was £450) I am glad they got rid of it.

The main problem with the PS3 for me is that it doesn't have backwards compatability - I have so many classic games for the PS2 that I wouldn't want to stop playing .
