There is always going to be a debate over whether the Playstation 3 or the X-Box 360 is the best of the next gen consoles. I have never owned an X-Box so I will concentrate on the merits of the PS3.

Firstly, it runs quietly. Now this might be expected but isn't always the case with consoles which often whir away and can be quite distracting.
In terms of graphics and sound, obviously that will depend on the work that the games developer has put in, but a good example of stunning atmospheric sights and sounds would be Dead Space.

Where the PS3 comes into it's own is when used as a media player - It's excellent! It can obviously be used as a Blu-ray player and produces excellent picture and sound quality. It also upscales normal DVDs to almost HD quality. I've used a few blu-ray players and the PS3 is at least as good as more expensive alternatives.

Connectivity to the internet is incredibly easy. I finally hooked up to it after nearly 3 years of owning my PS3. I plugged my ethernet cable in and that was it! Only downside was a firmware update was required which took a while. Then I signed up to the PS network which required a few personal details. I was very surprised how simple it was.

It can also store MP3s if you want to use it for that but I haven't yet so can't really comment.

I would be lost without my PS3 and I love it that much that I got a 2nd one with my new phone contract so we've got one for the living room as a media player and then a games console for the spare room. The price puts a lot of people off but i never regretted forking out for my first one.
