Advantages: Play TV, free online gaming, blu-ray, can increase HDD if needed
Disadvantages: nothing
I've owned a 60GB PS3, since they were first released back in March 2007. From my own point of view this is a far superior gaming console than it's nearest rival, the X-Box 360 and this is because of the following:
Blu-Ray DVD Player
Free online gaming
HD upscaling when playing back normal DVD's
HDD can be upgraded for more space
Ability to stream music and video from a nearby PC
Play TV
Backwards Compatability
Ability to install an OS on it
Some people may say that they games are better on the 360, and I would simply say that this is because that console has been out longer and developers have had more time to get the most out of it. The PS3 is just starting to come into it's own now. I didn't buy it just to play games on, I bought it for all of the reasons above, apart from installing an OS on it. I have a nice library of Blu-Ray films which look awesome, and if I want to put one of my normal dvd's on I can, and they too are upscaled to HD, and believe me the difference is noticable!
Admittedly the 360 has a better online experience in terms of downloads compaired to the PS3 but then again I would expect this, seeing as you have to pay for X-Box live, but again this is something Sony have acknowledge and will be enhanced very soon.
The PS3 is a true media centre. If you want to just play games then get yourself a 360, but if you want to be able to play games, watch Hi-Def films, have free online gaming and be able to turn your console into a freeview PVR then the PS3 is the console for you!
Summary: This console is THE daddy!

- 30/09/08 Can't wait to get a PS3 myself hopefully for Christmas - have played on my mates at Uni and it's excellent. The 360 seems to be slightly ahead on sales, but that could be because most people have to buy a new periodically when they break LOL. ;) tom |
