Advantages: Cheaper than the 3000, good controls, good games, good graphics, PS3 interaction

Disadvantages: UMD a dying format, not many new games

As an adult, mature and serious gamer, I am somewhat puzzled that the Sony PSP has effectively died in the face of the childlike Nintendo DS. Nonetheless, if you buy a PSP you have to beware that it is a bit of a dying format at the moment, with few new games coming out, less and less shelf space in the shops, and Sony have even announced they are to ditch the failed UMD format.

If I get past the bitterness about the NDS (!) however, I see what I think is the best handheld console yet. For a handheld the graphics are brilliant, and the controls are intuitive and easy to use for anyone brought up on the PS2. Not only are the games good (and FIFA 09 and Resistance are more adult than anything on the NDS), but it also has a lot of extra features. For example, if you have a PS3 and PlayTV you can stream live TV to it over the internet. It is light, and extremely portable, and looks great!

The Slim and Lite is worth getting over the new 3000 model. It is less money, and the only main difference on the 3000 was the brighter screen and messenger.

But it's resale value is really in question, you might have to accept it won't last long!

Summary: Worth getting if there are a lot of games already out you'd be content playing
