The PSP Slim and Lite or PSP 3000 is an upgraded version of the Sony PSP handheld.

The PSP 3000 looks almost identical to its predecessor, the units size is noticeably less thick than the original PSP 1000 model and they have managed to shed quite a bit of weight from somewhere which makes it a far more comfortable fit to your hands.

Other minor changes include the speakers which have been moved to the top of the console, the Home button has been replaced with a Playstation logo and the rear silver band around the PSP logo has been made smaller. The console is still made from a premium finished glossy black plastic which is still very finger print prone but you can get it in other colours such as silver which will probably be better off.

In the box you will have the PSP 3000, the battery pack, battery charger and instruction manuals. You will need to get a memory stick to save your games along with an actual game to play to have some fun with your new toy though you can get bundles which will include these extras.

The PSP 3000 has seen many upgrades to its interface, for a start the PSP now contains a microphone built in which you can use with the Skype application to make calls as well as use it in online gaming to chat to other players in the supported games.

The LCD screen on the PSP is now noticeably more vivid, brighter and more colourful the ghosting that plagued the original PSP is gone so it may be worth revisiting some of your games to see how they look on the new 3000.
The unit also features 64MB of RAM memory which is double the capacity of the original PSP and as a result they have included a UMD cache option which allows the PSP 3000 to use its upgraded memory to significantly improve the load times of some games.

The unit is still compatible with all the UMD games and movies that are available with the PSP including the excellent Final Fantasy Crisis Core a prequel to FFVII, Metal Gear Portable Ops a continuation of Big Boss story, Ratchet and Clank Size Matters a portable version of your favourite platformer, Ridge Racer a fast paced racing game and many more excellent titles!

If you were to get yourself a PSP console now this would definitely be the version you will want to go for.
