Advantages: Lightweight and easy to use, great picture quality

Disadvantages: Battery not brilliant and not really family friendly

I got the Sony PSP Slim and Lite as a gift from work and have passed this one to my partner to use and he loves it. I have used it a few times and have been impressed by the quality of the images that you can get on the screen.

The PSP has extra features compared to the nintendo ds handheld. You are able to view the internet without the requirement to go out and purchase extra software. Using this internet feature you can also connect to your PS3 online (if you have one) and watch a film if you have one stored on the hard drive. We have also bought the AV leads to be able to connect the PSP to a tv so have been able whilst abroad to watch a film in our hotel room that had been put on to the memory stick. Using the internet feature on it if you were in a hotel with wi-fi access and you have lef the PS3 on at home you can turn it on and then watch what you have stored on it, which is a feature that may or may not appeal to you but does involve spending about £250 on a PS3!

The controls on the PSP are the same as on a normal sony controller so anyone used to playing a sony console should be able to pick up how to use and play with this very easily.

I'm not that impressed with the battery life and find that if you want to play/watch something for any period of time then you need to make sure the charger unit is close by.

The speakers on this unit are very good. The ony thing I had with it was that we had a pixel go on the orignal PSP but a quick phone call to Sony Customer Service and we arranged for them to collect the old one and bring another one as replacement 2 days later. We could have waited and had the original one repaired but Sony offered to cover the replacement with the life of our warranty and we wouldn't have had to wait for it to be repaired.

Where as the Nintendo DS is geared towards a more family friendly approach the PSP is geared more towards the serious gamer who doesn't want to be parted from their games console for too long. So if you are looking for something to keep the whole family happy I would suggest anothe handheld console otherwise the Sony PSP is brilliant and does everything that you want it to and has loads of accessories for example the PSP GO which turns it into a sat nav system.

Summary: Gaming for serious gamers on the go
