Advantages: Extremely addictive, graphics, game play
Disadvantages: can be a bit costly
This is my latest review and it is on the Sony PSP, the PSP is the latest gadget that is about and its one of the best, I bought the PSP in Tenerife because its cheaper with no tax and all that. I got it off a gadget shop, if you have been to any of the Canary Islands then you will know that there are people trying to drag you in to there shops ‘come in my friend I do you goods deal’ little do you know that you are probably going to get a good deal but will break the day you get home. But there was this shop and the shopkeeper was very good in explaining to me how tourists normally get ripped off and he was very good in explaining how people get so good deals in Tenerife and I will tell you because they are not European. And when they get home to buy the games they don’t work. And so for a little bit more money they get a European PSP and is a lot better. So that was a little warning if you are going to buy a PSP abroad. But enough of that lets get on with the review.
-*-*- What is the Sony PSP and what does it do? -*-*-
The PSP is basically a better version of a Multimedia player whereas you can play games aswell I will explain this in a little more detail in a moment.
The main featues that the PSP has are;
Music – It has the ability to play music such as the MP3’s and WAV files this is really easy to navigate to via the menu that is on the PSP. Once you have accessed the PSP music menu they come in alphabetical order and they play continuously until you tell is to repeat or only play selected files.
Photos – The PSP has the ability to view photos and I think you can buy a camera on this but I am not sure or they are meant to be bringing out a camera but the PSP can view pictures all your favourite pictures you can take around with you it is compatible of viewing .BMP and .JPEG pictures and if you don’t know what that means then basically you can view most pictures.
Video – The PSP can play .MP4 and .MPEG files again this sounds very complicated to a average user but if you download something off the internet its normally in MPEG format and MP4 is another format that the apples use to view there video files.
Games - This is one of the main parts of the PSP and is what the playstation is famous for (by the way PSP stands for playstation portable), you may be asking yourself how can you play games on a little 4 x 3” screen well your waiting is over. To play the games you have to buy tiny disks called UMD disks and they slot right in the back of your PSP and you are away the graphics and sound effects of these games are phenomenal they are full games you know with hundreds of levels career modes you will not believe the stuff that you can get on one little disk.
That is all that the PSP can do and it is a lot for the price but now I would like to take a moment to introduce you to the UMD disks.
UMD disks stands for Universal Media Disk, and these are 2gb in capacity and for people that don’t know what that means it means a lot half a DVD. The disk are for the PSP for 2 reasons at the moment the first is to play the games and I have already explained its amazing! Although I have already said this I will say it again, the graphics are totally amazing!!!! Ok, that’s the first reason the second is that you can watch top quality movies in the video department you stick it in and it’s a video! So many uses for the PSP. Before I said there are 2 reasons at the moment and I believe that in the near future they will have cd’s converted into UMD and so you can play albums. I think that UMD disks will take over DVD’s because they are protected by a plastic covering and so they are impossible to scratch. They will soon bring out a player that you can put on your TV. Well that’s what I think…
Another of the great thing about the PSP is that It can browse the internet using its wi-fi switch, as long as there is a network about you can browse the internet. And the connection setup is really easy even my nan could do it if she tried, well probably not because she wont be able to read the screen but you get my jist.
Saving Games - To save the games you save them on a little gadget called a memory stick duo which you can read more about in the next paragraph.
-*-*- Where and how to put media on the PSP -*-*-
This maybe the complicated part when you purchase a PSP for the main reason it’s a bit of fiddling about. When you purchase the PSP you may get a thing that sony have invented called a memory stick duo and all this is a memory card that only work in PSP’s and its so that sony can make more money. Once you have got the memory stick you are ready to start putting media on the PSP. This is the complicated part because you need to hook the PSP to your computer via a USB this is fairly simple but then you have to create a folder and rename it, and then place your media in it. I wont explain how to do it because this is a review and not an instruction manual.
On the PSP also there are options and in this there are options how to set a wallpaper, slideshow speed, network settings, security settings date and time etc.
*-*-* Other Stuff *-*-*
I bought the PSP for 220 euros that’s about 157 pound and that’s for a value pack which is 190 in England. You can also get the Giga pack which is about 230 pound. The games for the PSP are around 30 pound each and this is pretty good seeing what you get for your money but the movies are 7 pound on Amazon the cheapest ones.
-*-*- Conclusion *-*-*
I have two words to sum up the PSP and them two words are awesome gadget, that explains it.and I think that if you have the money then its well worth buying. But I think that they will go down in price once the PS3 comes out which is about November 2006.
Thanks for reading my review
I hope you enjoyed it!
