Advantages: Small, powerful and compatible

Disadvantages: Hard to put down

The PSP is probably the best handheld game console in existence.
I originally bought a PSP for games, but that is the tip of the iceberg.

To start, a few pecs;
CPU: PSP CPU (System clock frequency 1~333MHz)
Main Memory: 32MB
Embedded DRAM: 4MB
Display: 4.3 inch, 16:9 widescreen TFT LCD, 480 x 272 pixel (16.77 million colors), Max. 200 cd/m2 (with brightness control)
Speakers: Built-in stereo speakers
Main Input/Output: IEEE 802.11b (Wi-Fi), USB 2.0 (Target), Memory StickTM PRO Duo, IrDA, IR Remote (SIRCS)
Disc Drive: UMD Drive (Playback only)
Profile: PSP Game, UMD Audio, UMD Video

The screen is excellent quality, and allows you to watch mp4 format movies in excellent picture quality.
The games themselves are easily played as the controls are all in the right places, it is clear Sony have tested this layout to get the best working layout.
The web-browser that is built in is very fast if you get a good signal, and there is even email clients available for the psp.

I should have bought one years ago...

There is a few applications that I use on mine, PSP-PDA is a PDA application that has notepad, email, calender, alarm clock etc on it.
There is a few basic word processors and a couple of databases, the databases can also be uses to show your photos etc.
Now, hold on you say, there is no keyboard. The PSP will support infra red keyboards, either full size, or mini fold away ones. I use a mini.

There is a photo viewer built in, and you can show all your pics to your friends after you copy them onto a memory card.

Mp3 is the format of choice for music on the PSP, the playback can be sequential or random, and the display will show visualisation if required, although the inbuilt speakers are not good for music, it is well impressive with earphones.

Battery life on the thing varies, if you are watching a film from a memory card with the screen at the dimmest level you should get around 8 hours from a full charge, if the screen is on full brightness, volume up full, and you are using the umddrive a lot, you should get around 5 hours from a full charge.

There is now a massive "homebrew" scene built up around the psp, and although it is frowned upon by Sony, there is applications to make a decent PDA, loads of free gmaes and emulators for other systems, c64, spectrum, nintendo 64, snes, neo-geo etc.

Altered from my inclusion on Ciao.

Summary: I cannot imagine having to do without mine now.

The PSP is the new gamegear, its got better features than its nintendo rival but just isnt as playable and doesnt have the battery life.
