INTRO
The PSP (Playstation Portable) was announced at E3 in 2003 and was expected to be a revolutionary handheld gaming system - to outwit its opponents such as the Gameboy and the new Nintendo DS.
The PSP was released in the UK (and rest of Europe) on the 1st September 2005, although i imported mine several months earlier from Japan. I t was on sale at a price of about £180.
since its release it has sold over 37 million copies worldwide!
CONSOLE
The console itself cannot be described as just a handheld games console but as some sort of mini dual purpose machine.
You can do almost anything on this console from watching movies, to playing games or surfing on the internet.
Videos:
You can store movies or videos on your PSP either through downloading them from the internet or connecting to your computer and uploading. of course the amount you can put on there will depend upon how large your memory stick is. The basic pack comes with a 32mb stick which is unsuitable for any films, but you can now purchase 2 or even 4GB memory stick for around £30.
Note: a film will take around 700MB (rough estimate)
You can also purchase UMD movies to play on your PSP which are just like DVDs for the PSP. Here are a few good ones:
- I Robot
- The Simpsons Movie
- Night at the Museum
You can get most new films!
Music:
Again very similar to videos in which they need to be put on through the computer and the amount you can store will depend upon the memory stick.
Games:
there are a variety of different games which can be bought for the PSP and which are very similar to those of the PS2 - in content and graphics.
Here are my favorite games:
- Fifa 08
- Loco Roco
- Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas
One can also download game demos through the PSP, or for thos who are more daring you can install emulation in which you can download a variety of other content such as gameboy games, playstation games, etc.
Internet:
One of my favourite features is the ability to easily surf the web on your PSP and with a wi-fi system you can easily pick up any signals and go onto the internet without all the usual costs.
It is very much similar to your internet on the computer.
