Advantages: Something for everyone

Disadvantages: Games are expensive

I recently bought myself a Sony PSP, as I have always been a fan of the Sony PlayStation, and PS2 (to be honest, I only got the PSP because I didn't have enough money for the PS3)
I bought the new slim and lite version, only to find that a few weeks later, the new model, the PSP 3000, has been announced.. But that's besides the point.

Am I happy with my PSP? Was it worth the money? Should I have just kept saving for a PS3?
Yes, yes, and maybe (but only because I still really want a PS3)

It's hard to review the PSP, as your experience of it really depends on what games you have. So I'm going to more or less ignore games.

The PSP definitely has the capability of showing some brilliant graphics - get yourself Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and you'll see what I mean.

The sound quality from the built in speakers isn't great, but it isn't something that would bring down my rating of the PSP - if you really care, get some headphones and you'll be fine.

The PSP itself (slim and lite version) isn't too big. It's quite conveniently sized actually, and is easy to carry around in a handbag/backpack/etc (though I recommend you buy a case for protection)

The design and overall look of the PSP gives you the impression of a smooth, sleek, black (my PSP is black) cool thing with buttons. I really can't think of any other way of putting it.

The PSP is also able to play music and videos, which is great for long journeys, if you've played through all your games. I bought myself the 8GB memory card, and I never find myself running out of space.

You can also hold photos on the PSP, and can set them as the background, or play slideshows. I must admit, even on the relatively small PSP screen, the photos look great

Last, but not least, I shall mention the PSP's ability to connect to the internet via WiFi. The internet in my house is wireless anyway, so if I want to check something quickly on the net and I'm not bothered to turn on my computer, along comes the PSP and it's all done in a matter of minutes.

My only problem with the PSP, are the prices of the games. Now that's not the console's fault at all, but it's something to take into account if you're thinking of buying a PSP. All I'm saying is that you'll find yourself dishing out a good £30 for new games and they tend not to get very much cheaper then £10. At least, those are the prices in stores - you may find things cheaper on the internet.

Now I think I've said just about everything I can think of.

My overall impression of the PSP - a must-have for gamers, and even suitable as just a portable media player, if you're not into games.

Summary: Go get a PSP now! You'll find something you love
