uxorious Nokia 221T: ... originally wanted digital TV for the true widescreen signal. But I didn't want to pay a monthly subscription cost. A while back I bought a Sky system, one off payment, and this entitled me to freeview. I didn't get all the fancy channels, but I was happy. Just recently though Sky / BBC have stopped providing freeview, for non BBC channels. This meant I lost ITV, Channel 4, etc. After looking into digital...

... is now a well know fact that Matsui is the "own brand" used for Dixons and Currys. As far as video recorders go its falls into the category of cheap and cheerful. Don't let that put you off, if you are anything like any members of my family, that is all you are after. It was my brother who first purchases a Matsui video recorder a total of 16 years ago, his first lasted 12 years before it started to get a mind of its own. He is now happily on his second one. And all this time hasn't had a need to call an engineer out. My first Matsui recorder lasted just over 10 years before waving the white flag. So I went straight out to buy another. Disappoin...

bovthedog Toshiba V 711
... reading rave reviews on the V711UK I bought one. After 14 months it would not retain the recording set times and lost it at apparently randomly times. It would then only be suitable for playing tapes. Shortly after this the recorder would shut down after again random times and then finally would not work at all. Even failing to eject tapes. Having been lucky with TVs and VCRs (Philips and Sony) in that they lasted for years would not now buy another Toshiba product. ...
