      Very helpful

When our old toploader (yes, toploader) finally died it was time to get a new VCR. Money being tight, as ever, we went for the cheapest option we could find - the LG AC2501 at £79.99 I wasn't expecting great things, but this is a little workhorse that has performed consistently well since we bought it a year ago. Features include long and short play, auto tracking, auto and manual channel finder, on screen clock, counter and tape remaining display, wide screen recording, Quick Set Recording, timer, child lock, energy saving and a "Video Doctor" diagnostic program. The only major feature it seems to lack is Video-Plus but that's a luxury...to me anyway ;-) Everything is easily accessed via the remote control handset and on-screen display. The only problem with this being that if you lose the remote control (as I did!) the settings are not accessible and you have to buy a new one at £30. Ouch! It's easy to connect to the TV and digital box, either by aerial or one of two AV sockets. The black case is quite slim and the machine fairly quiet - for example the rewind doesn't drown out the TV as with some other budget models! The recording quality is fine in short play mode but loses a little in long play as with all recorders. Tape anything you want to keep on short play! For a cheap VCR I'd recommend this model every time.
