Advantages: everything except...

Disadvantages: you can't use frame by frame playback from the remote control

Panasonic have a superduper range of videoplayers out at the moment and this is the one I've got. In the age of Digital Versatile Discs and that cray-zee new TiVo thingamawhatzit that records onto its own memory, Panasonic havent left it all behind them and have stuck by those of us that like our chunky video cassettes.

Basically, this videoplayer is very good. It has some really nice features to it like the on screen menu that clears up a lot of the confusion of working these kind of gadgets. Simply press 'menu' and all the things you might want to do with it are right up there waiting for you. There is a table showing all the timer-records youve got set up very clearly and a library which gives each tape a label by which it remembers it every time you put it in and tells you what is on it. If the recordings are from terrestrial TV it can tell you the name aswell as the time and date of recording.

The recording quality is excellent and the sound and picture are hard to distinguish from live telly. The nicam stereo recording is very pleasing aswell. A playback feature I like is the frame-by-frame viewing which is controlled by pausing the video and rotating the dial on the box back or forth to get to the exact spot you want on the tape or to watch a section in slow motion or backwards (worth a try!).

I would recommend this to anyone as it is a nice piece of kit which serves its purpose flawlessly. A cheap alternative to a DVD player too.
