... better on a modern VCR – no facility to change satellite channel, no super fast re-wind and no catalogue facilities. Also, unlike some modern S-VHS machines the VR1000 doesn’t appear to attempt to write psuedo S-VHS on normal tapes – it simply uses VHS on VHS tapes and S-VHS on S-VHS tapes. The Phillips VR1000 offers great quality but only simple features. I chose the VR1000 because its recording quality in S-VHS tapes is superb and because it’s black. I’d looked at the equivalent JVC models, which appeared to only be available in silver or champagne. Whilst I liked the features and picture quality, I didn’t feel like replacing all the other units in my home cinema system to match them. I can’t praise the picture quality of the VR1000 enough – it’s so close to perfect you’d never notice. Sound quality is also top notch.
