Advantages: Nice size, nice looks and easy to use.
Disadvantages: Gives out electrical shocks when plugged into the mains and the helplines are not worth their weight in glue!
About 2 weeks ago I purchased a Toshiba VCR which as I was led to believe was a very worthy name of a good reputation in brilliant workmanship. The one that I originally ordered was the V230 uk but it did not arrive in time.
The make that I bought cost me £99.99 from Littlewoods Home shopping catalogue and was model V210 uk with all mod cons. It came complete with easy to use remote control, Nicam Digital Stereo, NTSC playback, PDC, Video plus, Scart connections sockets, long / short play, 6-event timer, 2 heads and was a lovely silver grey colour too.
It was installed by myself and done under the watchful eye of a friend who fits and installs TV's, VCR's, Sattellites and aerials for a living. It was fantastic and worked perfectly with my old Mitsubishi TV while I waited for my New Toshiba TV to be installed by 2 of their installation team.
Around 3 days ago the 2 kind men installed my Tv and it worked well for the first 24 hours and then things took a shocking twist.
The pictures on the channels became distorted and started to ghost. We assumed the first day that a fierce frost that we had had was the cause of it. But yesterday it was the same. I then noticed that whilst installing the TV the 2 men had trapped the RF output cable which led to the Tv from the back of the VCR and the outside aerial cable. When I freed them I got around 240 volts straight up my left arm.
The casing, the Rf cable and the sockets at the back were all live. Toshiba will not accept any responsibility for damaging me or my exterior aerial as they say it is down to Littlewoods. Littlewoods will replace the faulty goods but again say the aerial and my brief injury is down to Toshiba.
We have been on the Telephone for 2 and a half hours going back and forwards from one to the other and no-one wants to know.
My warning to anyone wishing to buy a Toshiba VCR is to check the casing and RF sockets with an electrical light-up s
crewdriver and lots of care. My 2 sons could have been the ones to touch the wires and it makes me wonder if they would still be saying the same thing then!
