When you spend as much time on the Internet as I do then you really do need to have an efficient anti-virus software programme, as there are literally thousands of unscrupulous sites and unscrupulous persons out there in cyber space who are simply waiting for the opportunity to infect your poor wee hard drives with all sorts of nasty wee viruses and bugs that will make your old (or new) computer very sick indeed. For years I used the Norton Anti Virus software. While it was relatively expensive to purchase it had the reputation for being one of the best on the market, with the facility to constantly update the software and renew your subscription over the Web ... I have been having quandries about Anti Virus software, because my Norton software was fighting with my AOL software, and in the end neither worked correctly. I know that Norton have a good reputation, although since having XP and being able to see clearly what space was used by which program, I thought that not only was Norton a little too greedy on space, but that half the time, the updates were time consuming and that when it did find things, it didn't always know how to fix them. That may not be totally fair, but it was costing me money, and with the never ending conflicts between AOL and Norton itself, I got thoroughly fed up and decided it was time for a ... I always thought that AVG was the best free home anti-virus software about, until now that is!! I have been using Avast Home edition for about 6 months now and can honestly say it knocks spots off AVG. The whole application itself seems a lot more simplistic and is easy to use. Avast is totally free for home use as they have a commercial version which they charge companies for. I think the license lasts for over a year before it stops updating the virus checker but once this runs out you can just log onto their website and download the application again and get another years absolutely free. Alwil who are the makers of Avast anti-virus offer support by ... Read the complete review

Up until recently I was a faithful and dedicated user of Mcafee Internet Security. That is, until I started running into problems with it. My computer, even after reinstalling Windows, was repeatedly becoming infected with the same three trojans, namely Zlob, Fakealert and Vapsup. As Mcafee was no longer doing it's job, despite being told by several IT professionals that Mcafee is the best, I decided to look for a different antivirus program but my funding was insufficient so I had to look for something I could get for free. I came across the free version (Home Edition) of Avast antivirus software and decided to give it a go. Therefore this review is based ... Read the complete review

If you have read my review of my experiences of AVG Antivirus, especially Version 7, you will know that all did not go smoothly. I particularly had problems with old machines which didn't have a lot of memory. This was a surprise because I never had a moments trouble with the previous release and was happy to recommend it. As, from AVG7, you couldn't get any support without paying, I decided to deinstall it. Now, running without any antivirus protection is possibly the silliest thing to do, I clearly needed an alternative if I was to continue to use these machines. Actually, by this time it was this machine rather than these machines. My wife's old ... Read the complete review
