Avira Anti Virus Personal

This recently has been an up and coming competitor and rival to the well known AVG Free anti virus (which I have reviewed) and is taking the free anti virus market by storm.

I have been using this program for a good 3 years now and have had no problem with my PC what so ever. It has kept the virus definitions up to date daily and has scanned my PC weekly without slowing down my work rate.

It uses Virus Guard which constantly goes through your system scanning files which may easily become infected without you even knowing about it. This means you don't need to run full scans too often which begin to slow your PC slightly.

It has one of, if not the highest, detection rate of any free anti virus software and after trying AVG, Avast and Avira I have found is the most reliable and uses the least amount of system memory.

The latest version also comes with spyware protection so you will no longer need to have an extra program running to protect you from that.

The only annoying thing is the "nag screen" which appears each time you update the program however, a simple Google search for 'avira nag screen' should find you a result on elitekiller.com which has steps to remove this.

Thank You For Reading.

Summary: A great free anti virus which is proving more and more popular.

I have been loyal to AVG for years now but it's good to know what else is out there and it's good for them to have some competition too :)
