Advantages: Consistently the best Anti-virus pruduct around

Disadvantages: Mildly annoying banner popup on updates, that's all!

I have used nearly every free AV product available on the market over the years and I have settled upon Avira as my recent favourite for free AV protection.

The only annoying thing about the program is the annoying banner that pops up when the program automatically updates. Only mildly annoying, but still! Other than that I have to say I'm impressed, very very impressed.

The product has a reasonably small footprint with regard to resources it uses. The AV scan has a cool name 'Luke Filewalker', well it made me chuckle, but the main benefit of using Avira is the effectiveness of the scanning and the lack of false +ve's you get from this great AV program. So with this product there is less chance of the program believing something to be a virus which isn't! Great stuff.

There are lots of other sites to check for proof of what I'm taking about, so don't just take my word for it.

To conclude, to my mind there is no need to buy any other AV product use this free product and you will be laughing.
