This is a great anti-virus software, i have it installed on both of my laptop, and on my daughter's computer.
You can get this software with a 1-year license for around £29.99 or £59.99. Depending where you purchase it. This license can be used up to 3 devices. But if you have an online banking account with Barclays you are able to get this for free. If you wanted to test the product, you can download the trail version which will last for 30 days and then it will ask for you to purchase a license to carry on using it.
For me i got this offer from Barclays, it was a quick simple process of just entering your details. Once done it will take you to the download page, where you download the trail version. You will then need to wait for a couple of days in order for you to receive your license code. The license code is sent via email. The reason why you receive the code in a few working days is because Barclays will run some security checks and to make sure that the details you gave match your online banking account.
Installing the software is a quick and easy. the program will first download the latest updated version, this will take a couple of minutes (depending on your internet connection), once done it will then run the setup wizard which you will just need to read what it says and then click on the corresponding options you want. Once done it will be installed and it will then ask you to restart the computer. Next time you boot up Kaspersky will auto launch, it will take a while to load the applications, as it needs to check your computer specs and then adjust itself accordingly. Once it has loaded, it will then open up, the interface matches the theme of windows 8, it is easy to use, and easy to navigate around. There are four tiles that appear on the bottom of the program and one tile which has an arrow on it.
The four tiles are:
Update - this will update the program as well as the virus database.
Scan - this will take you to another section, which will ask you the type of scan you want to do (full, custom, quick and rootkit)
Safe money - this is an application that comes with the software, it helps to make sure that all transaction you make are secure and encrypted.
Report - this displays the latest findings, it will show you the number of viruses, worms, Trojans that the program has encountered, and it will show whether it has been successful in removing them and it will show which files were infected.
The arrow tile will show the four tiles that are mentioned above, as well as showing:
Parental control - depending on the amount of accounts you have on the computer, you can create a restriction (if needed) to each account so that they cannot access certain websites
Network monitor - this shows you the amount you have been downloading as well as showing you the total amount each application downloads
Quarantine - this will show the infected file, it will show what it is, the date it was encountered as well as showing the file location
Tools - you can do a vulnerability scan which will detect any ways a software or the operating system can be affected by viruses. You can create a rescue disk, in which it will help to detect any problems as well as eliminating them. There is the option to troubleshoot windows in which it will see if there is any malware activity or system failures and it will help to fix those issues. You can also clear your computer history i.e. cookies, logs, and other data. Finally you can configure internet explorer so that it the security strength is set to strong in order to keep you safe while browsing
Application control - this will inform you on which applications that are trusted as well as the application that are not trusted. You can then manage which application you trust, or disable the ones that you do not need/trust
Virtual keyboard - just displays a virtual keyboard onscreen.
There are four small links displayed below the four tiles mentioned above:
My profile - this will take you to the Kaspersky website where you can create an account. I have not used this options, so there is not much i can say about it.
Settings - you can then configure the application to meet your needs, you can set it to scan emails, update automatically, you can choose what to do when it finds an infected files, etc.
Support - it displays the current version as well as the operating system version. If you are experiencing any problems you can contact them, or you can browse the support forums to find any issues that are related to yours.
Licensing - this is where you can find out when your license finishes as well as being able to input a new one or you could buy a new license if needed.
I have been using this software for at least a year now and it has protected me a lot. There are some many websites that is thought were safe, but ended up contain malware or viruses. This helped to keep informed as well as protected me. The parental control is great, it does what it says, on my daughter computer is have blocked access to adult websites, gambling websites and websites that promote violence. It is great and easy to set up, by adding a password on to it helps to make sure that no one can remove the parental control.
Overall i am very pleased with this software, it has protected my laptop as well as my daughters from a lot of viruses. The parental control works really well, it shows you what websites my daughter has been going on, as well as showing which websites has been blocked, in addition it blocks adverts that contain any viruses as well as blocking them if they meet the filter that is set on the parental control.
