Advantages: extremely user friendly features and interface, variety of features, massive threat database

Disadvantages: none really =)

I, as i would guess many advanced PC users would, have gone through a staggering amount of anti-virus / security applications to protect both my computers and those of my family.
Allow me to start off by saying Kaspersky Internet Security (KIS) is suitable for almost everyone, whether you're new to using your PC or a pro. The interface is simple or advanced, with both modes being intuitive (although some features are not necessarily where you'd expect). I found the interface to be a lot easier than its competitors McAfee and Norton, although i still (after a year+half of use) cannot find how to trace attempted network attacks, which McAfee did in a click.
Norton on the other hand did not protect me at all and was more like a virus, being very intrusive and blocking most of my programs.
Also i notice more on KIS that if something isn't liked by the firewall, [[right-click the icon -> pause protection -> option ]] will instantly allow all traffic allowing you to sort out the problem. My other PCs with McAfee aren't so fortunate as the program cannot do this and also cannot be disabled (as i am aware).

Now I do alot of downloading, and if you download alot, whether it be from trusted or untrusted sources you may receive alot of viruses unless you are aware of what you're doing (which I have found the average adult user is not - sorry) it can be a major problem, this the need for a good anti virus.
Having downloaded a lot of freeware from different sources, KIS is a good stable A/V and has only failed me once... when a malicious website used a webVBscript to drop a harmless .exe into my \system32\ folder. It disabled TskMgr and made a little popup in the task bar saying 'Buy our software' - it was easily removable without an A/V.

Before you rush and buy this may i say that there is also a cheaper option which gives less (cannot remember this, check on Kaspersky Labs) but may be more affordable.

This is the BEST, and EASIEST to use. Many would argue that freeware AntiVirus' are better than paid but I have found that KIS has one hell of a detection rate, and an easy interface packed full of features. Also easier in my opinion to activate than McAfee (my mother bought three McAfee disks which she subsequently changed for KIS) and is trouble free.

Last point: unless your PC that you want an A/V for is connected to the internet, there is no need in getting an AntiVirus as you shouldnt recieve any from legitimate CD/DVDs.

Summary: This is the best antivirus i have used yet
