Advantages: Light footprint, and finds and destroys what the bigger guys failed miserably to do

Disadvantages: Real time protection only available with the "paid for" version

Malwarebytes comes in two versions, the paid for version (which to date is available for £18.97) and the free version. In the paid for version the main difference is that it offers you "real time" protection, which will block you from system intrusions BEFORE they can do significant damage.

Installation is easy and straightforward, and after downloading, the software opens up with an interface that is plain but easy to understand.

There are 9 tabs consisting of scanner (which gives you the option of quick or full scans).

Then there are the "protection", "update", "quarantine", "logs", "ignore list", "settings", "more tools" and "about" tabs.

Updates can be automatic or manual.

Now I had the dreaded "vundo virus/spyware" a while back and the only two applications that I know that was able to get rid of this nasty was this application and SuperAntiSpyware (please read my review on this for further information).

I tried all sorts of spyware and antivirus applications to rid myself of the "vundo", but to no avail. Even my own Nod 32 couldn't get rid of it despite detecting it. My other spyware detectors, Spybot, AdAware, etc. simply could not rid me of this nasty pest. They either failed to detect the "vundo" or, if they did, simply could not delete the relevant files and registry entries this nasty had made.

I downloaded more and more free trials of almost every application available to rid myself of this pest but to no avail.

As a last resort, before I decided to reformat my PC completely, I researched this malware on the internet. The best I could come up with was a report from Symantec (Norton) giving step by step guides on how to try and rid yourself of it by deleting and editing registry entries etc. manually. This to me seemed a dangerous option at best and I found it odd that they knew about this "vundo" yet even their Norton AntiVirus scanner was not able to destroy it.

I was at my wits end, then, on further trawling of the internet I came across a blog about this vundo pest and ways in which it could be destroyed. The suggestions were MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware.

I had never heard of either, but downloaded them as a last resort.

Malwarebytes scanned the computer in a reasonable time, found numerous files and registry entries from this pest and deleted them in an instant.

I couldn't believe it! I rebooted my Computer fully expecting the spyware to still be there as NO other application had managed to destroy it. But viola! It was gone- and gone for good. What a lifesaver!!

So the only two applications I trust implicity are MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware.

I don't know if the other big companies have got their act together now and can combat this vundo malware, but even if they can, too me it is a case of "too little, too late". Shame on you Norton and Co. leaving the hard work to this little gem of an application which no one had hardly heard of, to come up trumps when you greedy lot failed so miserably.

Sorry for rambling on a bit, but I had to get it off my chest!

So in my opinion MalwareBytes ranks alongside SuperAntiSpyware as the best two spyware applications available. I recommend MalwareBytes wholeheartedly to anyone who wants great protection from all those nasties that are out there!

Sounds like a fabulous bit of kit and yes Norton and the other big boys should be ashamed of themselves!
