Advantages: Secure and easy to use

Disadvantages: Draining on RAM when scanning

As a long time user of ZoneAlarm I was reluctant to try anything else as I had never had any problems with ZoneAlarm until Vista came along and then the clashes started. So, having had McAfee Virus Scan Plus 2008 recommended to me I decided to give it a try and I am fairly happy that I did.

The package is reasonably priced for what it is and the whole installation process is easy to follow and complete, even for complete beginners. The whole set up takes a matter of 5 - 10 minutes, not including the first full system scan and you feel like you are up and running securely after just 1 reboot.

Once installed and you are set up, you are presented with a nicely designed and laid out Security Center hub where you can access and configure everything about your product. There are lots of advanced features for network users that I cannot comment on because I have had no need to use them. What I can tell you is that for the simple home computer, connected to the internet, this product is simple to use and very secure. I, touch wood, have had no viruses or spyware on my PC since the installation.

Features in this hub include the regular online update, the full or fast scan, McAfee virtual technician, your account, network management, maintain computer and the ability to lockdown your computer in case of emergency. These are to name but a few.

The package comes with a neat email scanner too to block any suspicious emails from hitting your inbox. There can be nothing worse than securing your internet connection only for the malware to come in via email instead.

There is a downside to the program though and that is the draining effect it has on the speed of your computer when performing any kind of update or scan. This is not a problem if you plan them for when you won't need to be sat at your PC, but can be an issue if this is not possible.
