Advantages: none hogger, user friendly, good detection rate and very cheep
Disadvantages: none for me
I know the title of this bit of software may sound like the name of you're mothers favourite sister but believe me it does a lot more than give you a few quid to spend down the local sweetshop.
This little beauty sits quietly on your PC, helping to keep those nasty little bugs from ruining all that work that you have spent years building up.
It tracks down any little intruders and safely imprisons them with the speed and skill of a bounty hunter, so they can do no more harm, keeping them locked away in quarantine for you to look and laugh at when ever you want.
**WHAT IS IT...
It is a tiny little gem, being less than 6MB to download and only sitting harmlessly on your drive using a mere 11MB of space.
It is simply to use Antispyware program which WILL find and delete any little spy-ware, adware, malware and a lot more, including Trojans, worms and hi-jackers that are intent on causing your system harm.
There are two version of this program, a free version, which offers ample detection abilities, and a Professional version, which offers some extras but does come at a cost.
**WHAT DOES IT DO..?
It does exactly what it says on the tin... it finds and destroys spyware.
When you have downloaded and installed it on your PC, which only takes a matter of minutes, depending on your download speed of course, you are then presented with the main menu which gives you 5 main options.
Main options...
#1) Scan your computer...
From here you are given the option of three types of scan.
a) Quick scan... scans certain parts of your system, such as known registry locations and the most common place where spy-ware/ adware my hide
b) Full scan... scans your entire system, completely.(recommended at least once a month)
c) custom scan... choosing specific parts of you PC you want to scan, giving you complete control.
NOTE: Each scan result gives you full control of what to do with any little terrors which have been found.
#2) Schedule scanning...allows you to choose when you want the program to scan your system, (only available on Professional version,)
#3) Check for updates...allows you to manually check for updates for database version and definitions
#4) Manage quarantine...opens up the 'bugs' which have been quarantined, allowing you to restore them if you want to???
#5) Preferences...opens up a world of other options to help you customize the look and feel of the program... including...
a) Start-up options... allows you to set how the program opens
b) Scanning controls...lets you customise the scanning process.
c) Real time protection (changes only available on Pro version)
d) Hi-Jack protection... keeps an eye on your home page.
e) Statistic and Logs... gives details of recently detection.
f) Repairs...helps fix any hijacked browser and system setting
g) Updates...checks for updates manually (free version) or automatically (Pro version)
h) Help... gives many contact addresses if help is needed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Also available on the pro version...
* First chance prevention.... Which scans common point when you start up your system.
* Real time blocking... stops any 'bugs' even before they have a chance to get near your system.
* Registry protection... stops hijackers from attacking your registry.
* Schedule scan...lets you organise times of scanning, (see above).
* Auto scanning on start up.
* Automatic updates (although free version allows manual updates)
* Daily definition updates... giving updates of new dangers.
* System diagnostic
* E-Mail support.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
* IN CONCLUSION...
I do like to use this one to specifically scan my entire system, knowing that it will pick up anything and everything, even many little 'bugs' which some hefty priced programs fail to locate.
The scanning time does vary, depending on how much it has to nosy through, the more on your system the longer it will take, but when it is finished it displays what it has found in an easy to understand screen, allowing you to decide what to do with the little bits of nastiness.
It is such a user friendly program, offering everything you need at the click of a button, so simple even my grandmother got the hang of it on her first sitting, (and she's still struggling with the toaster at the moment), so if she can do it then I'm sure anyone can, (no disrespect Gran, honest).
I do realise that there are many 'antispyware' programs on the market these day, and there are several more coming out each month, but this one does a lot more than the more expensive ones by actually detecting those tiny little creeping viruses that some very expensive software fail to grab...and as this comes in a free version, which does just the same detecting as the PRO version, it is a bonus in itself.
* How much does it slow your system down whilst scanning? I hear you ask. ~~(maybe not in them words but you get the picture)~
It doesn't slow it down at all, in fact I'm actually writing this as it silently and effortlessly does it's job in the background...(although I do like to leave it scanning entirely on its own at least once a fortnight, I just set it scanning and go about my business for a while, but this is when I am totally cleaning my system...little old paranoid me).
In all, I have been using the free version for a while and am totally satisfied with what it can do to help keep my system from becoming taken over by alien nanobots?.
I have tried the PRO version on another PC and although it does offer a bit more, mainly Real time protection and automatic updates, I am still very satisfied with the free version, especially as I have other programs offering real time protection.
If you do want to try either the free version or the Pro version then they can be downloaded from www.download.com
The Pro version offers a free trial and then costs around £20-£30 to buy.
** CAUTION..
This is not an antispamware, neither is it a firewall, so please install the appropriate protection against those other little blighters.

- 24/03/09 The name of the program sounds like one of those dodgy, fake antivirus / antispyware programs but obviously not. I've been using the free version of MalwareByte's AntiMalware, which does the trick. Great review. |

- 13/03/09 I agree. This particular one is fantastic!. Had the vundo spyware a few months ago. This was the only one that could actually get rid of it. Norton and the other big boys didn't have a clue!!!!. great review. |
