Norton Antivirus 2005

I had this installed on my laptop back in 2005. I got it free for one year with the laptop and decided to give it a try. In hindsight I wish I hadn't of bothered and in the long run it has well and truly put me off buying any Norton products.

A bit about Norton

Norton Antivirus is developed by Symantec Corporation. They seem to release a new version of their antivirus each year however you can take a subscription with them and your original purchase will keep updating.

My opinion

I don't know a lot about the workings of computers but I quickly realised that this was a pretty crap product. It was loud and would slow the computer down dramatically. So much so it was near impossible to do anything if Norton was doing anything else. I scanned regularly and sometimes found viruses. At one stage I got such a bad virus the computer had to be left into get fixed at the cost of £60. I thought Norton was supposed to block viruses but in this case it didn't.

Uninstalling this product is also a bit of a curse. Fortunately now some people have made tools to help remove Norton but it is notoriously difficult to get of this product completely from your computer. My advice would be not to bother with Norton. Presently I am using two computer at home one has Mc Afee and the other is running Kapersky. So far the Kapersky seems the better of the two but its early days.

Summary: Glad i didnt pay for this
