This product is the reason i stopped using Norton. possibly the worst antivirus i have ever installed on my computer. I know other people have had success with and swear by Norton but this simply did not do it for me. . .upon installing the update disk i was taken through the usual setup instructions. Simple I thought, its only an upgrade , it should take no time at all to install. But I was very , very wrong. After already taking 4 hours I knew there must be something wrong, but give it time i thought, it may suddenly install overnight. Woke up the next morning to discover it had frozen 2/3rds of the way through. fair enough , try again i thought. Installed it again , same thing happened again, 2/3rds.... Crash! Third time lucky and by some sort of miracle it managed to work. good i thought , no more problems. Having used norton for years before I didnt expect any more problems. but sadly, this wasnt the case either as, the software was the slowest , most cumbersome and sluggish program ever created to put on a computer. my internet was reduced to a dial up like crawl ,startup of the computer took a full 5 minutes or more and worst of all, I began to get serious viruses. I cought one virus before with Norton 2005 that was an automatic dialer and because i had dial up, billed me for £100. I assumed this must just be a blip in Nortons good record ,but upon installing this I realised how wrong I was. With this 2006 upgrade i caught several trojan viruses, mostly from msn, which contained worms aswel, they quickly multiplied and it took months to finally find a solution and rid my computer of annoying popups etc.
After tollerating this until my lisence expired (too long if you ask me) I opted for AVG 7.5 and i havent looked back! I use it in combination with ad-aware SE and spybot search and destroy. AVG managed to find several viruses that Norton didnt and is much lighter on system resources ,meaning that it actually seems like im using broadband now instead of a rather overpriced dial up.
Infact ive heard lots of bad things about Norton recently , but AVG and Kasperspy are currently in everyones good books. Opt for one of those instead. The same applies to Norton 2007 ,again, very heavy on system resources i believe. Oh and with AVG you get a two years lisence instead of one that can be installed on 3 computers.Cheaper to
Symantec's Norton AntiVirus carries a well known name and does indeed live up to its reputation. Prior to installing it, my previous virus package would often alarm me of infections yet not be able to prevent or stop them.
Norton, however, seems to be able to cope with whatever still dares take on my PC. No more infections have been reported and . due to the daily updates - I assume that this is the new status quo as far as my PC security is concerned.
