I was given Norton Anti Virus and i though oh good this will be good and better then AVG (the free edition) which i was using. Unfortunately it wasn't in my experience. I had always found AVG to be quite a resource hog and found that it used alot of CPU to start up every time i logged in to my pc and i was hoping that Norton would fix this issue although i found it to be much worse and cause everything to be alot slower from starting the pc to opening programs, files and even logging off. From that point of view i was very disappointed with it but i thought that surely as it was paid it must be better the a free edition of AVG in terms of virus protection. Again i was wrong. At no point when i was using it did i get notified on any viruses and i did do a virus scan when i first used it and just before i gave up on Norton AntiVirus and both times it picked up nothing . I was however annoyed that when i went back to AVG it picked up a Trojan that Norton Anti-Virus had missed. For me that was really the final nail in the coffin for Norton so i said bye bye permanently to it. I would in no way recommend to anyone paying for this as i was given this a present and i still found it useless and i would have been very annoyed if i had wasted £25+ on buying this rubbish. Only because it is paid and well known doesn't mean that it is good and offers really good protection.
I believe that norton anti-virus really isnt the best you can get for your money. i bought this from my local computer superstore roughly 2 months ago, and i can honestly say il never buy norton again. it takes way too much computer memory and can slow down your system a hell of alot! not only this, but it doesnt always install correctly and it's also pretty useless. it hasnt picked up a single spyware or virus on my computer since i bought it, yet a free anti-spyware software i got included in my google package picks up 20-30 infections a week! i had to get some live assistance when i first installed norton because a component didnt install correctly. it was a 10 minute wait and the responses were slow and painstaking. it's got alot of variety when it comes to features, but only about 2 of these actually need to be used, the disk clean up and disk defragmenter wich actually work. its not reliable as it doesnt warn you when a threat is detected. the updates are also of no use as they just take more space and still do as much as when the updates werent installed.
i got the free trial on a new computer and i wished i hadnt activated it all the virus i have found have not been detected by norton. The functionality is poor and the customer care is poor... The Scans can take up to 5 hours in which it uses all of my cpu and ram therefore rendering my computer useless until it is finished. i suppose the program works bes on an apple com with terbytes of storage as i've found on two windows OS's that the use is slow and not effective. however the anti phishing filter is a very useful sub applicant as it can protect you from website trying to get your information. overall i would not recommend Norton as it doesnt work effectively and cannot be easily removed from your system (short of reinstalling windows grrrr!). But the anti phishing filter is good, but I suggest not wastin your money on norton and go for something cheaper with better reviews as norton is a waste of time money and disk space.
I first installed Norton AntiVirus onto my computer about a year ago. It was part of a special discounted package which came with my Tiscali Broadband and to be honest I really wish I hadn't bothered. After reading other reviews on AntiVirus software perhaps I should have done this before purchasing Norton I discovered that there is a number of people that have problems with this Software package. From the start I found the software was slow to download crashing twice. The first time I put down to perhaps an interupted broadband connection but the second time I realised it was the software. I continued to download the software successfully on the third attempt. The version that I purchased Detects and removes spyware and viruses. Blocks spyware and worms automatically and Prevents virus-infected emails from spreading. One thing I will say about this software is that it does do the job that it is meant for. I have had no virus, spyware or worms infecting my computer since I have had this software installed and I have had a number of attempts blocked. The downside of this software is that it takes a good five minutes for my PC to boot up and things do tend to run a lot slower. I think I will be looking for a better solution once the licence runs out on this product.
I've been using freeware so far but just switched to NAV on my new computer. First of all it's nice not to have the annoying nag screen of the freeware I was using popping up every once and a while anymore.I've been checking up on the live updates to see how frequently they occur and there's been almost daily activity there, so the program is always up to date on the new security threats
