Advantages: None really...very similar to Systemworks 2005

Disadvantages: Makes you computer very slow & unstable, no real updates from the 2005 edition.

I had the previous Norton Systemworks 2005 Premier Edt and was impressed by how quick and efficient it was. Like all antivirus/utilities software programs they always use quite a lot of system resources but the 2005 edition was not too bad in terms of this. But...

I recently bought and installed Norton Systemworks 2006 Premier Edition. I installed it on my new AMD 64 X2 4800+ (Dual Core) computer. This computer used to boot and load windows within 20 secs and it used to shutdown completly within 10 secs prior to installation of Norton Systemworks 2006.

After installing Systemworks 2006 my computer has been very slow. Despite this being a top of the range AMD chip it is greatly affected by Systemworks. Now the machine takes about 60 secs to load up to Windows and takes about 30 seconds to shutdown and I have noticed a very visible slow down within my system and it seems to crash more often too. I have uninstalled this and now I am using Systemworks 2005 again, but still the computer is running slow from the effects of Systemworks 2006 even though its been uninstalled. My fast computer is now crippled and is very slow and crashes more often since installing the 2006 edt.

Do not install this product as it will slow you computer greatly. A search on google for 'Systemwoks 2006 slow shutdown' will bring up a multitude of websites agreeing with my claim. And even a national leading PC magazine has too made the same comments about slowness as I have.

In terms of features, its pretty much the same. The interface is the same except for a new home security screen but all this does is sums up the status of your computers performance, antivirus updates etc. Everything else is the same. Speed disk, Norton WinDoctor and all the other things are still here and appear not to have been updated in any way from the 2005 edition.

Overall, this product is a step backwards for Systemworks. The 2005 edition used to use very littly resources but this one drains the power out of your computer and causes system instability. Also there has been hardly any visible changes from the previous edition and so is not worth upgrading at all.

I have to live now with a system that is instable and slow due to the installation of Systemworks 2006 - despite uninstalling it the effects are still there. Stick with Systemworks 2005 if you have it.

Summary: Drain on system resources, causes very slow bootup and shutdowns and causes a lot of crashes.
