My HP pavilion a1200y was new in May 2006 and came with Norton SystemWorks 2006 trial version. It seemed to work well so I bought the Norton Internet Security 2006. It has been one horrible experience after another. I stopped using NIS with over a year to go in my 2 year subscription. It was so difficult to uninstall that I never got around to uninstalling the Norton SystemWorks 2006 (customer support had told me that I should have uninstalled the trial version before installing NIS 2006, but advised that since the system seemed to be working, it was okay).

Meanwhile, my system took several minutes to become operational after a warm boot. System resources looked fine, but the disc access light was on steady and the computer could not process any requests. I became so frustrated that I bought a laptop. Yesterday, I spent over an hour removing the old SystemWorks. Now my system is working fine. It is hard to believe that a program that was not running could have such a disastrous effect.
