“ Brand: Virgin / Type: Subscription-based computer virus protection software „
Virgin Media Security is supplied free to many VM Broadband customers and provides extensive protection. Hoeever,Virgin Media no longer supports Windows XP! This was stated on the 'phone and later by E mail by their agents. So beware of their software! Virgin Media Internet Security software is known "to create havoc" in systems running XP - again words from their agent. Nowhere do they inform their customers of these facts. It cost me £60 via one of their premium fix lines to get my system running properly after it was damaged by their Security software.
As a Virgin Media customer you are able to download their own security suite that provides a wide range of protection, the actual cost of the package depends in part on the time of subscription you have with them and for me the vast majority of the package is absolutely free. The two most important programmes that you get with this security suite is firewall protection so your prescence online is hidden and also virus protection to prevent infection of your PC. Both of these not only protect your PC but your identity as well as this information is often what criminals target online.
In addition you also get an ad blocker and a privacy manager for controlling what information is visible and managing the sites that you are prepared to allow access to your system. With this package however some services are based upon a subscription, this includes such things as spyware, identity theft and parental controls and while the amounts for each service are not great, in the case of anti spyware it is £2 however over 12 months that soon adds up and there are alternatives out there that will do the same checks and for free.
The package is easy to load onto your PC and you can load it onto as many PC's as you like, you just log into your Virgin Media account and follow the links through your V Stuff area and the software will start to download onto your PC. I find that this is an effective piece of kit, the definitions are updated every time I log on and it is up and working as soon as I load my internet. In addition you have control of the settings and the frequency that you run a scan, mine takes place weekly and it runs silently in the back ground without affecting the way my PC operates with regards to processing speed.
Through V Stuff you also have access to music and photo storage and you can also back up your files for free to ensure they can be recoved if anything does go wrong.
So far I have found that I have had no problems with this system and it is certainly a package that I trust and would recommend to any Virgin Media customers.
