“ Brand: Complan / Type: Soup „
When it comes to food and eating I am terrible. I am Bulimic, have been about 8 years now and I have an ongoing fight with food. Don't get me wrong I have good days and bad days, some days I eat enough, some days I don't and some days I eat to much and make myself ill. However I am very aware of this battle and struggle I have and I know its only me that can really change the way I am.
As part of trying to recover, myself and my Doctor came up with the idea of Complan...for days I'm scared/worried or anxious about eating or when I have little or no appetite and me, well so far so good I usually have one a day for breakfast or like this flavour I have it for supper and the likes. I can have it made up with milk so its like having a main meal calorie wise or with water for a light meal and usually and just because I am personally more comfortable with it I have it made up with water.
The box this flavour comes in is white and a dark yellowy gold and on the front of it there is a picture shown of a bowl of soup on there and we are told that it is 'Nutrition When You Need It' Complan, Chicken Flavour 'Vitamin enriched, meal in a drink' and that it gives a complete range of vitamins & minerals. Other information listed on the box includes being told a bit about the product and how to make it up, there is a list of ingredients given and a full nutritional chart is also given, the size is stated (my box is 4x57g) and contact details for Complan foods are given. inside the box like I say I have 4 sachets which are white paper on the outside and silver foil inside and rather large they are to and on there is much the same information as is stated on the box which is handy if you want to take them out and about with you.
This is meant for anyone who thinks that they may need it and not just for people who have eating disorders like me but for anyone who is missing out meals or recovering from an illness of any kind, its also great for people to have after a hard workout of if you simply want to help maintain good health in general. This is especially rich in Vitamin C, D and calcium plus is a great balance of protein, fat and carbohydrate so some people even use this as part of a calorie controlled diet (not dieting as such!).
So like I said earlier you can make this up the equivalent of a main meal calorie wise with one serving of this mixed with full fat milk (1/3 pint) and that gives us 386 calories or you can mix it with the same amount of water and get the equivalent of a light meal which gives us 250 calories per sachet/serving.
To make this up is ever so easy. Boil water or simmer milk (microwave it if lazy like I do!) and then simply blend the Complan powder into a paste with a fork. Its a white power mix with little green, dried spinach flakes within it in abundance and it really isn't a problem to get into a well blended looking soup that has a chicken aroma to it.
To me if made with water it is really runny and quite thin, with milk it does thicken it up and give it a creamier flavour though. I always end up with mine in a huge mug though as again either way its made I don't find it as thick as alot of tinned soups and it is a very smooth liquid...think cup a soup sort of consistency with this and your not far off.
Taste wise well to be honest it is very plain. There are not bits in it, it does taste a little salty and although I can tell its meant to be chicken flavoured it just isn't all that tasty as it is so plain however I guess that's what it is meant to be! There are no artificial colours, preservatives or sweeteners within this (as there isn't in any of the Complan meals) and although this is 'meat flavoured' it is suitable for Halal and Vegetarian diets (though not Vegan) and it is also Gluten Free.
This may not be the tastiest soup in the world but I can rest assured that this is good for me and packed with goodness. Its a large enough serving, does fill me up and tide me over for a while and although I wouldn't use this unless I was under the weather and would opt for something off a supermarket shelf and hopefully more tasty this helps me in every way possible and helps to keep me alive...I'm off now for my supper!
Available in all good chemists etc at about £3.00 per box though they are available on prescription for certain ailments.
