Floradix was recommended to me by a pharmacist. I was looking for a high quality vitamin supplement for my son and she was speaking very highly about this product. I was not sure as it was about £10 for 250ml and would need to be used within a month. I also was initially put off by the fact it was a liquid as my son normally does not drink liquid form supplements. Nevertheless I thought I would try it out as I have suffered from low iron many times and I decided if he does not like it I will have it.
Floradix is a liquid tonic, nutritional supplement with ferrous gluconate iron, vitamins B and C, herbs, as well as containing fruit juices. It is suitable for vegetarians and it provides a good absorption of iron, oxygen into the red blood cells. The fruit juices and herbs help prevent constipation normally associated with iron supplements. It is free from preservatives, chemical colourings and flavourings.
Surprisingly my son liked the taste whereas when I first started taking it I hated it. I decided to give it a miss and my son some days would take the tonic and other days refuse it. My daughter did not like the taste and refused it altogether. The first time we purchased this unfortunatly we did not finish it within a month and I threw away the remaining after the month period. I forgot to mention once opened it has to be stored in the fridge.
4 months after my first purchase after a blood test I discovered I was low in iron. I was prescribed some iron supplements which like many people do not suit me and upsets my stomach. I decided to try out Floradix again as a friend was also speaking highly of it. This time I purchased from Amazon and the price was cheaper. Floradix comes in two sizes a large 500 ml or 250ml. I went for the 250ml as I was not sure if I would take it regular enough as before I disliked the taste and it put me off.
Floradix arrived quickly from Amazon and was very well packaged. The container is glass so I was worried it won't get broken in the post. For adults the dose is 10ml twice a day. I shakedbthe bottle well and this time I did not find the taste too bad. It is a weird sort of taste, slightly bitter yet slightly sweet. I do not love the taste but I find it bareable. I would begin my drinking water after but now I do not require it as long as I shake properly before use. If I do not shake properly I notice a slightly bad after taste in my mouth.
The bottle comes with a small measuring container which is stored on top of the lid. It is easy to pour and drink and the liquid is a dark brown colour. Once opened the glass bottles needs to be stored in the outer cardboard packaging and stored in the fridge.
I finished the first bottle fairly quickly within a couple of weeks or slightly more. My son also occasionally has a 5ml dose. After I finished the 250ml, I reordered and bought the larger bottle of 500ml. Therefore if you are taking regularly or require for more than one person go for the larger size as it is more economical. The cheapest I have found this product us Amazon so far. £10.44 for the larger 500ml size.
It has been a few months of use and I do think it has definitely boasted my energy. I began having more energy within a few days of use and feel I need to sleep less. Whereas beforehand I would feel tired a lot of the time. I have not had any stomach problems with Floradix and I think it is very easy on the system. My diet is not perfect and I'm not too fond of iron rich foods so this product has been good for me so far.
Floradix is my first choice of health supplement if I am run down (more so than usual) or if I have any kind of infection, and having M.E, I do get a lot of infections especially over the winter. I use injectable B12 as well as this liquid all year round at the moment because this winter was particularly bad for me (12 courses of antibiotics and steroids this winter!). I also find it useful as I am still lactating and need all of the energy I can get. Floradix is a fruit, veg and herb extraction, a liquid syrup containing honey which has no preservatives or nasties. Once opened it needs to be refrigerated. This is a large bottle which lasts just over a month (when taken as recommended).
Floradix is manufactured and sold by Salus-Haus who are a Bavarian company founded in 1916 by Dr Otto Greither. The company has been at the forefront of natural supplements and herb teas for over 90 years and they sell a range of capsules, liquids and teas which can be found in all major health shops and online. The company actively contribute to the well-being of the environment and even the power supply to their production unit is generated naturally by a stream that runs through the centre of the Bavarian factory. UK companies, take note!
The liquid arrives boxed with plenty of info on the outside. It is heavy and the bottle is large and made from dark glass to protect the contents. The lid is gold coloured and vacuum sealed. There are a few different sizes of bottle available to buy and the range also extends to liquids for kids, and liquid ginseng and magnesium supplements. It slots in the fridge easily as it is a stocky but narrow bottle. You are advised to shake well before use and to take approximately 30 minutes before meals (morning and evening).
Adults: Take 10 ml twice a day.
Children 3 - 5 years 5ml taken once daily
Children 6 - 12 years 10ml taken once daily.
The warnings on the bottle state not to exceed recommended dose and to keep out of the reach of children.
THE GOOD STUFF:
Floradix contains iron (in the form of iron gluconate), vitamins B2, B6, B12 and C (the B complexes aid fatique). The Iron content is essential for normal red blood cell production and this is also supported by the B vitamins (6 and 12). Vitamin C is included and it aids iron absorption. In liquid form these are easily metabolised by the body. The liquid also contains herbs, kelp and fruit extracts which make the product taste strong but unoffensive. It has a very "vitamin" smell which I find from the B complexes. very brewers yeasty. 10ml taken twice daily provides 15mg of elemental iron.
(For those who like lists, here are the ingredients:
Aqueous Extract (54%) from Carrots, Nettles, Spinach, Quitch Roots, Fennel, Ocean Kelp, African Mallow Blossom. Fruit Juice Concentrates (29.4%) Pear, Grape, Blackcurrant Juice, Water, Blackberry, Cherry, Orange, Red Beet, Lemon, Carob Extract, Apple. Aqueous Yeast Extract, Honey, Aqueous Rosehip Soft Extract containing 4% VITAMIN C, Iron = Ferrous Gluconate, Wheat Germ Extract, Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid), Natural Flavours, Thiamin as (Thiamin Hydrochloride), Riboflavin as (Riboflavin Sodium Phosphate), Vitamin B6 as (Pyridoxine Hydrochloride), Vitamin B12. )
NO alcohol is present in Floradix, nor are there any preservatives, colourings or flavourings. It is lactose free and vegetarian but not suitable for vegans due to the honey content.
The combination of fruit and vegetable juices and extracts assist with the age old problem of constipation, which is a common side effect from taking Iron. Floradix is also GMO free.
NO PILL POPPING:
A supplement is no substitute for a healthy diet of course but sometimes we needs a boost in times of illness, pregnancy, stress etc, I use Floradix to keep me as healthy as possible in my circumstances as well as a boost when ill and not having to swallow lots of vitamin pills is a bonus. I do not find the taste offensive although it is strong. If you find it yucky then it can be diluted in water or juice and chugged.
NUTRITIONAL VALUES: (Typical values per 10ml)
Vitamin C 13mg
Vitamin B6 0.4mg
Vitamin B12 0.6ug
DOES IT WORK?
Well I am not a good candidate or advert for the product I am afraid as my health is awful! However it would probably be worse without this and my attention to diet. It is not a miracle cure by any means but is a useful and healthy addition to a good daily diet. There are many accounts on the net in regards to the success of the product so I would advise you to read those first. I do recommend it for many reasons, ease of taking would be one, lack of nasties another and the fact that unlike many vitamins it does not contain sorbitol or preservatives.
PRICE: Starts at £11.49 for 500ml on Amazon, and from £16 in health stores. The 250ml bottles are obviously cheaper at around £8.
On more than one occasion, I've returned from working on overseas projects rather run down, and fatigued. Although I've tried many tonics, this is now the only one I reach for whenever I'm run down or under the weather. When comparing it to other tonics formulated to aid recuperation it's second to none. Buy it. You will not be disappointed. James Adams www.hrmbusiness.com
After the birth of my son I was very anaemic. The doctor was keen that I take Iron tablets, but I had other ideas! I have never been able to tolerate Iron in tablet form as it makes me feel sick. A friend recommended I try a liquid Iron known as Floradix. It worked well for me and I have been a keen advocate of Floradix ever since.
Floradix is actually far more than a liquid Iron tonic. It also contains a range of fruits, vitamins and minerals. In fact one 10 ml spoonful will give you 71% of your RDA of Thiamin, 60% of your RDA of vitamin B12 and 54% of your RDA of Iron. It is recommended that adults take 2, 5ml teaspoons twice a day before meals and children aged 1-5 should take 1, 5 ml teaspoonful a day.
Floradix contains Iron from spinach and nettles, fennel.ocean kelp, honey, fruits including rosehips and wheat germ to name a few of the good things contained in the bottle. If you want to see the full list I suggest you take a look on the web site.
Floradix is not cheap with a 500ml bottle costing a massive £15.55 from Holland and Barrett. It is available on several web sites for less but I prefer to buy locally. Once opened the bottle will need to be kept in the fridge as Floradix doesn't contain any preservatives. The bottle comes packaged in an outer cardboard box to kept protect the liquid from sunlight as this would be damaging. A small plastic measuring cup is included.
I love the taste of Floradix as do my children. It is a taste I find difficult to describe but I'm guessing its one you will either love or hate! Floradix leaves no after taste in my mouth and is also very gentle on my stomach. Iron can play havoc with your digestion and cause constipation; I'm pleased to report that I have suffered no problems with Floradix. My children were not too keen on the dark colour of the liquid at first ,but are now quite happy to take it!
As I have said I first took Floradix to correct and Iron deficiency and it really helped. My blood count returned to normal within a few weeks of taking Floradix. It is also very good to take during or after an illness. After fighting an infection your body needs all the help it can get! It is suitable for vegetarians and is a good source of the B vitamins that vegetarians sometimes lack.
Floradix is suitable for everyone including pregnant and breastfeeding women, men and children. Three are several variants of Floradix available including a gluten free version. Overall I can highly recommend Floradix as it works well, tastes pleasant and doesn't have any nasty side effects!
Anyone who has an eating disorder (or has had one or knows someone with one!) will understand that one of the bugs bears is a low immune system and not getting all the vitamins an iron that one needs. I'm constantly having blood tests that come back out of whack either with an Iron deficiency or dangerously low potassium levels or something wrong.
Now anyone with an eating disorder is 'not' supposed to take iron tablets and the likes. For us iron is harder to absorb in the body than most people however my lovely Doctor recently popped this for me to try on my prescription which was jolly nice of him considering I'm exempt from paying prescription charges anyway cos of all of my health issues!
The box this comes in is orange and white with pictures of flowers and fruits on the front of it and we are told that it is Floradix Liquid Iron Formula 'Containing Vitamins, Herbal Extract And Fruit Concentrate and that it provides a nutritional iron, a mineral required for maintaining fitness and health and that it is alcohol free and contains no chemical preservatives and the size is stated which in my case is a 500ml bottle. Other information listed includes a bit about the product and dosage instructions, nutritional information is listed as well as the full ingredient list and contact details for the manufacturer are given. The bottle is brown, see through and glass with a twist on off gold cap/lid to the top of it and gives pretty much all the same information as listed on the box basically and inside of the box there is a pamphlet saying all that stuff over again and giving a list of warnings and caution and the likes too.
A Bit About The Product According To The Information Listed On The Packaging:
Floradix provides essential Iron which enables red blood-cells to transport oxygen to all parts of the body.
Floradix is especially suitable for women (including expectant and nursing mothers), men, growing children and persons whose diet is lacking in natural iron and vitamins.
Floradix is suitable for Vegetarians.
Take 10ml twice daily approx. 30 mins before morning and evening meals.
Children 3 to 5 years of age: 5 ml daily
Children 6 to 12 years of age: 10ml daily.
Well the liquid is rather thin, sticky and a murky transparent brown colour with a real whiffy aroma of yeast to it. Simply measure out your dose and away you go (I use a teaspoon).
Taste wise it isn't foul but not exactly tasty either. I have heard that some people pop their dosage into water or into orange juice or whatever to help with the taste of it but considering I only take a couple of small teaspoonfuls anyway I can manage.
The only side effect I have with this is that I have found that I have gotten a little constipated. I have therefore had to up my fibre intake....but this isn't uncommon apparently when taking this.
Not only a great product to take to immediately get up and keep up your intake of Iron (my latest blood test showed my iron levels were great from taking this) this is great for taking if you have flu, coughs or colds because during this time your vitamin and mineral levels really suffer and this not only can help fight that off but also fend off the common depressive feelings that some of us experience when recovering.
For me though I find this really beneficial and even I'm surprised that a simple herbal and fruit remedy can help to the extent it does! My mood is lifted, I suffer wit less aches and pains and feel a little more energy and awake in general.
If my iron level is balanced for once then I am happy to continue taking this a it works for me a treat!
Available from all good chemists and from Amazon costing about £7.71 for a 250ml bottle or about £12.19 for a 500ml bottle.

I started taking Floradix with Iron, because during the winter I just felt totally tired out and fed up generally, I have been taking it for about 10 days and feel much much better, my tummy isnt affected at all and I would recommend it to anyone as a pick me up or general tonic...
Earlier this year I gave birth to my first baby and unfortunately suffered a big blood loss resulting in me being horribly anaemic when leaving hospital. Although I was given iron tablets from the hospital I was also given a bottle of liquid laxative to go with them as "iron pills tend to bung you up" (quote from my doctor!!!!!!).
So after the iron pills I still felt rough and my iron levels were not up to scratch. My lovely GP prescribed Floradix for me.
Where do I get it and how much?
You can buy this over the counter but it is relatively expensive - maybe £16 for 500ml in a pharmacy. If you can get your doctor to prescribe it as it is free (or you only pay the prescription charge!) Try superfit.co.uk or discountsupplements.co.uk for cheaper versions.
WHat is it?
It is a really gentle liquid iron formula which, when taken should help you to feel less anaemic.
Who is Floradix recommended for?
Anyone who feels that they are low in iron. It is particularly recommended for expectant and nursing mothers.
Why should I take this not iron pills?
Floradix has liquid iron in a specially designed yeast liquid which makes it easily absorbed by the body. It is a vegetarian liquid made from flowers and yeast extract. It also contains various vitamin Bs again in an easily absorbed liquid format. According to my doctor the liquid makes it easier for your body to take in the iron than traditional pills. IF you take the recommended dose you get 100% of your recommended daily iron intake, plus 100% of the recommended amount of thiamin, riboflavin, pyridoxine and Vitamin B12.
What is the dose?
For adults two 10ml doses per day before the morning and evening meals. For children, and again my doctor recommends this for rapidly growing children two 5 ml doses a day.
What does it taste like?
Now this is the bad bit - when you open the bottle which comes with a handy measuring top so you always get the right dose, you are hit by a yeasty smell. IT is not as bad as marmite but probably a combination of marmite and flowers (I am really selling this, I know!)
The colour of the liquid is dark brown (again it doesnt look good).
The taste, is interesting- kind of a sweet yeasty, flowery taste that is almost impossible to describe. Now horrible but you definitley want to drink this and then have a mouthful of something else!
Does it work?
YES. When I first took this my iron levels were 9.8 (which is low), within 2 weeks they were up to 13. I was recently tested again and was down to 10 so started Floradix again, and again within a week this time am back up to 13 (which is normal and healthy). As soon as I started taking this I felt better, less tired and less sick.
Does it have THAT side effect of other iron supplements?
NO. Sorry to lower the tone but no laxatives required with Floradix - get your iron without iron in your guts (bad joke!)
A great product - not a great smell or taste but it truly works without upsetting your system.
Definitely recommended for anyone with anaemia!
Now let me begin by saying I am not actually anaemic. A few years ago I contracted some sort of virus, for which there was no cure, I would just have to sit and wait for it to get better on it's own. This virus made me constantly feel sick, dizzy, light-headed and faint, it was really horrible. I had blood test after blood test testing me for anything and everything, but they all came back negative, and my doctor concluded that it was most probably a viral infection that could last for a few months and then would go. Well, I could barely leave the house at this point and I knew I wouldn't be able to cope for months feeling like this!
I was beginning to lose faith in my doctors lack of support, so I decided to look into herbal medication and went along to my local Holland & Barrett to see if they had anything that could help. The shop assistant was really helpful and told me that she too had just recovered from a virus, and gave me a list of products that she used to get back to normal. One of these products was Floradix Liquid Iron supplement. I knew I wasn't anaemic so my iron levels were fine, but I decided to give it a go anyway and bought a 500ml bottle for £10.49. You can also buy a 250ml bottle for £7.50.
The packaging is a dark red colour and isn't particularly eye catching, it looks quite old-fashioned, like a tonic that my grandmother would have drunk in the 60s! The bottle is made of thick glass that is very dark thus making it really hard to see how much of the iron is left in the bottle, especially as there is a huge label covering the front and back of the bottle.
The bottle comes with a 5-10ml measuring cup and the recommended daily amount is 10ml twice a day, after meals, although you can use less or more as required.
I have to be honest, it tastes revolting! It has such a peculiar smell, for some reason it reminds me of spaghetti bolognese, but nobody else thinks so, so it must just be me! It does taste of iron, it has that foul metallic taste but it's also a bit fruity too. It is pretty disgusting, and I normally quickly down it whilst holding my nose and then run for a glass of water to get the taste away, it really makes me shudder!
However, this really really helped me overcome my virus. The first mouthful I took of it I felt instantly so much better. This was probably a psychological effect I know, but the effect stayed with me. Whereas before I felt light-headed and kind of floaty, almost like I wasn't fully in my body, now I felt grounded, the dizziness went and I just felt a lot more well again. I took this supplement for the duration of my viral infection and it really allowed me to cope with my day-to-day tasks which was great.
I now use it occasionally if I start to feel a bit weak or light-headed, it really helps you to feel better and gives you LOADS of energy too! When I stop taking it I really feel the difference as I get tired so much more quickly.

If you suffer with an iron deficient anaemia and can't face all the iron rich foods added to your diet but also find that regular iron tablets make you constipated then this may be a perfect solution to your problem.
If your iron and vitamin levels are OK but you still feel a little run down then this may also be used as a tonic to keep you pepped up, however I admit to only using it to top my iron levels up - so whether my tiredness goes from my iron levels rising I'm not sure, but seems to work faster than normal iron tablets.
I've also tried other liquid iron supplements and found the others made me a little quesy on taking them - whereas this had no side effects.
The main downside, aside from it not being available on prescription, is the taste, it's not the most pleasant tasting product on the market but that quickly goes away when you wash it down with a glass of orange juice (the vitamin C helps your body absorb the iron so it's the best option to take with it)
I definitely approve of Floradix Iron + Herbs. I tend to have a sluggish digestive system generally, so although this tonic isn't supposed to constipate, I still take it slowly when starting the product. My bowel movements are slowed a little when I first start it, but then my body adjusts and I don't have any problems after a few weeks.
I would suggest this product over iron pills as those definitely tend to constipate; even the 'slow fe' type.
This is also good for me as I'm a vegetarian and I don't eat a lot of foods containing vitamin b, and this product happens to have it as well as vitamin c.
Kudos to Salus-Haas for coming up with something that works for Iron-deficient people! Thank you.
Floradix and Floravital is for women who are always on the go.It is a yeast and gluten equivalent, containing a combination of herbs, fruit juices and Vitamin C and B complex. It can help women to maintain a normal life and be full of energy, especially during heavy periods or while you are pregnant or on the menopause, or wanting to have an active lifestyle . I would highly recommend this as it gives you plently of energy and is available from health shops. Floradix is a medicine form and is a herbel vitamin, and is cheap enough to make you feel full of life, I have being taken it for two months and feel almost a different women.
An all-natural, vegetarian herb and vitamin tonic
