I have been taking Cod Liver Oil supplements everyday since I was a teenager (I'm now in my thirties). I initially started taking them as I had a problem with painful knees and thought this may help. Although it did help slightly I had a problem that viamins wouldn't help with, but I continued taking the supplements none the less.
Due to the fact that I have been taking cod liver oil for so long, I'm not entirely sure how my body would be without it! However, now that I am reaching an age where flexibility can lessen, I am fortunately not experiencing that. I am probably more flexible now than I was as a child and never suffer with joint stiffness, which I like to think is due to the fact that I take a high strength cod liver oil capsule daily.
I have tried various brands throughout the years, coming to the conclusion that the supermarkets own brand is as good as any - and a fraction of the price of Seven Seas. The Seven Seas brand seems to be to vitamins what Versace is to clothes - a good reputation with a price tag to prove it. I take a high strength capsule containing 500mg of cod liver oil and as long as this need is met, the brand doesn't matter. At about £7 for 100 Seven Seas capsules compared to £1.75 for a supermarkets own brand, there isn't much competition.
With regards to the form of takiung cod liver oil, I would definitely recommend the capsules rather than the liquid. They are rather large to swallow, but with a big gulp of water they are fine. Seven Seas also do a liquid cod liver oil which, to be honest, I think is vile. It tastes unpleasant and leaves a fishy taste in your mouth for the rest of the day - even as a fish-lover, this is not pleasant
I have often wondered how much the result of taking vitamin or mineral supplements is a real one or a psychological one. Either way, one such supplement that has been around for longer than most is cod liver oil. Coming in many forms over the years, perhaps the best known brand is Seven Seas - it's certainly the one from as far back as I can remember.
Of late, I have taken a bit more care and attention over my health, after having had a couple of operations which would affect my diet. Towards the colder months, I've started taking cod liver oil capsules, and these Seven Seas ones are the ones I use.
Cod liver oil is said to contain many properties which can help boost the immune system. Areas benefiting include the joints, heart and blood, with prevention and treatment of arthritis also listed. Personally, I take these to boost my immune system for when it's most likely to be under attack, usually during the winter months, when I have a holiday or when I relax after being uptight for a while. It's in these times when my guard is down that I usually come down with a cold, almost instantly, and so I've been taking these to try and combat it.
Again, as I said at the start, I don't know whether a lot of the success is psychological, but I certainly do feel better when I've been taking these. They come in a tub with a secure lid, easily accessible but also child proof. Kids under 12 aren't supposed to take them. Each one is a transparent capsule and you can see the oil inside it. Each capsule is pretty full and you should take one a day. The oil contains Omega-3, which you now see all kinds of adverts mentioning and food packaging displaying (usually frozen fish fingers!) although cod liver oil is supposed to be richer in this and Vitamin D than most other options.
I do find it works. I feel better, and my hands feel more fluid if I make sure I take these regularly especially when it's cold outside, and it really helps with other scrapes and bruises too. It shouldn't be used as a painkiller as such, but if you take this regularly then your body will most likely deal with its usual aches in a much better way. I have the occasional old sporting injury and these are certainly less creaky whenever I've been taking cod liver oil.
Tub sizes vary. You can get one containing 3 months' supply (120 capsules) for around the £5 mark, and of course there are other brands that differ in cost. Technically, the cheaper ones still contain the same amount, although it can come down to the quality of the fish the oil is taken from. As with the quality of meat you get, the way the fish are treated has a direct effect on the impact of the cod liver oil and how much Omega 3 is in them. For such a low price though, it's probably worth sticking with a recognised brand.
I do think these work. It can't all be psychological and I do feel better and am less susceptible to colds when I've been taking them. I give it a rest when I've got quieter stretches at home or work or the weather is miles better, although we've always got a supply of these. I'd rather not take things unless I have to, but this is an exception that I find worth making. Recommended.
As most of you probably know Seven Seas have been around for many years. In actual fact, they have been around since 1935. This is an incredibly long time to be supporting the immune system of the human race. Therefore, it has loved for generations and even by me. I have tried many products from Seven Seas in relation to their Cod Liver Oil products and the one's I have stuck to over the years are the original Pure Cod Liver Oil Capsules and the Cod Liver Oil Plus Calcium. The Calcium one's were by far my favorite's. They had a sweeter taste to their capsule shell and were white in colour. However, they stopped distributing them and I had to go back to the original one's and this is what this review will be about.
I first started getting these Cod Liver Oil capsules because although I eat a lot, the only meat I eat is chicken. I will not touch anything else, not even fish, unless it is Salmon. I was finding myself weak in more areas than one as I was missing out. These tablets are not meant to be taken as a replacement, only a supplement. However, I took them like that because of what I mentioned before.
The capsules when I first got them were in a stretched oval shape. Now you can get them in long rectangle capsules, but with rounded edges. The capsules themselves are transparent so that you can see the Cod Liver Oil inside, which is yellow. The capsules come in a white container with a red label that has the branding logo and name of the product as well as everything else like guidelines and more.
Admittedly, I do feel better about myself after I take one of these in the morning. I feel that little bit healthier, but don't we all after taking a small supplement. I take these alongside Iron and Vitamin C tablets. I myself, do not take any other medication alongside these, so I can't say if you can mix or not. I just take supplements with supplements because of the foods that aren't in my diet. As well as feeling that extra bit healthier they also made me feel stronger. Cod Liver Oil tablets by Seven Seas have been proven to have tremendous effects on the joints, heart, skin, hair, nails and teeth. As well as being a short term remedy for arthritis. I suffer with arthritis in my finger and I have found these tablets most proficient.
The price of these Cod Liver Oil capsules vary on what size container you buy. Obviously, some are larger than others, but prices range from £5 to £10. Some cheaper if they are found on offer. I highly recommend these capsules to anyone who needs Omega 3 added to their diet, or simply wants to feel that extra bit healthier.
I have been yet to say this, but for those who are new to products like this. Cod Liver Oil is a high source of Omega-3, probably one of the highest. They support everyday good health and also have Vitamin D with them. Like the title of this product says, you only take one capsule a day. These are also suppose to be taken by people who are by the age of 12 and over. No younger. It is also suggested to not be taken by pregnant women, but this is not a definite must. Oh and these Omega 3, Cod Liver Oil tablets derive from the liver of cod fish.
If you have read any of my other reviews, you may know that I have dislocated my knee twice from playing football. I now use ibuprofen lotion and a knee brace which helped me complete my first half marathon in June.
For the past few years I have also been taking these cod liver oil capsules after being recommended them by a friend who suffers joint problems.
Since taking them I have found that my knees crack a lot less and the aches and pains I used to get are vastly reduced. I also don't have much Omega 3 in my diet (i'm not a fan of fish), so this supplement conquers that problem as well. I can't say that apart from the aches and pains I feel much different but knowing that I am actively trying to improve my health by taking supplements where my diet lets me down is good to know and something everybody should look at doing.
I normally pick up the capsules for around £5. Sometimes they are more, sometimes less, it just depends on if there is an over off. They do normally last for around 3 months because there is 120 which is a great deal.
The capsules go down very easily and don't really taste of anything. If you were to break the capsule i'm sure they wouldn't taste great but so far, this has never happened to me.
I take one in a morning with my breakfast. I don't find the need to take any more than that and have noticed an improvement in my joint pain which is why I started to take them in the first place.
I am pleased with the effects that the cod liver oil has had on my knee and also the fact that I am now positively improving my health by taking an Omega 3 supplement is also a benefit.
The fact that these capsules are cheap and have helped me with the aches and pains I used to get shows how powerful they are, and should be seriously considered by the majority of people.
I remember my dad always telling me to take Cod Liver Oil and at the time I did not take much notice of him, but now I am older and have children of my own I do realize how important our health is in order to live a long and healthy life, if not for me then for my children.
So I now take my dads advice and take one a day of the Seven Seas Cod Liver Oil tablets, and I hope that because of this when I am older I will be healthier and have good joints. Omega 3 is a essential fatty acid which can be found in fish, it has loads of benefits for our bodies like helping our hearts and circulation, this is due to the EPA and DHA or Eicosapentaenoic acid and Docosahexaenoic acid, it also helps the skin, keeping it moist and helps prevent wrinkling early.
As well as Omega 3 these Cod Liver Oil tablets also contain vitamin A, D and E which will help your body maintain its health, vitamin A will help your skin, nails and eye sight whilst vitamin D will keep your bones strong and the vitamin E will help to keep your immune system strong, so there is no end to the health benefits in Cod Liver Oil tablets. Of course it is important to eat healthy and get your vitamins in your daily diet but I think taking one of these tablets each day is a great way of reassuring yourself that your body is getting what it needs to stay healthy and strong.
Cod Liver Oil goes back a long way, my dad was forced to take it in liquid form as a youngster and he said that it tasted horrible but he was glad that he was forced to take it as it helped him to maintain strong bones and a healthy body, in fact for his age he is in great shape and is still often up and down the ladders for one reason or another. In fact this stuff can be traced right back to the Roman times when it was given to the soldiers in order to keep them strong and ready for battle.
You can pick up these tablets from lots of places like chemists, health shops and supermarkets or even online from places like Amazon, they come in a plastic tub which is yellow and red with Seven Seas Cod Liver Oil written across the front of the tub.
These tablets I bought online from Amazon, I only got them online because I use my Amazon vouchers which I earn on the internet to buy mine and my families health products, they cost me about £5.90 for 120 capsules but they are a little cheaper in the supermarket. So if you want to buy something which can keep you and your family healthy then I highly recommend buying some Cod Liver Oil tablets, and the Seven Seas brand is trusted so you know you are buying a high quality product.
