Holland & Barrett ABC Plus
by boredindunoon
Holland & Barrett is a household name of health food stores which excels and specializes in supplements such as vitamin and minerals as well as a range of other products. There have many stores throughout the country as well as a very good and easy to order from website.
On offer under their own brand name is their ... "Holland & Barrett - ABC Plus" a multi vitamin and multi mineral supplement with added beta carotene and lycopene. It comes in four different sizes to suit either a single person or the entire family and claim to "Provides all round nutritional support for adults in a convenient one a day caplet."
Each caplet provides you with a complete profile of vitamins and minerals and contain Vitamin A Beta Carotene, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Thiamin, Vitamin B1, Riboflavin, Vitamin B2, Niacin, Pantothenic Acid, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Folic Acid, Biotin, Vitamin K, Calcium, Chromium, Copper, Iodine, Iron, Magnesium, Manganese, Molybdenum,Phosphorus, Potassium, Selenium, Zinc, Boron, Lutein and Lycopene. Despite my best efforts I couldn't find anything that this supplement doesn't provide you with and therefore it does offer a very broad range.
The caplets themselves while not the smallest are still pretty easy to take and do not leave any aftertaste. It did take a bit of practice to work out how to open the lid and the direction to turn wasn't indicated. Other than that these caplets are easy to take and shouldn't present any problems. The jar itself is much larger than it needs to be with the contents filling just over half with the rest being air. Once you've removed the quality control seal under the lid it's just a matter of storing it in a cool dry place.
One of the only failings to this product is that the expires date on the bottle I purchase was only for three months into the future #60 caplets size#. I can't comment how long these supplements will be "safe" for after the expires date however I wouldn't want to consume them to far beyond this date. There is a chance that this problem simply arose from the one I purchase and usually you get a far longer shelf life.
It is recommended that you take it with a meal and not to exceed the recommended dose. I take each caplet (one per day is the dose) each morning when shaving along side Cod Liver Oil Syrup (but beware that also contains a lot of Vitamin A)
With all vitamin and mineral supplements they are not intended to be a substitute for a good healthy and balanced diet, instead just as a safe guard to ensure you are getting everything your body needs to be at it's best.
Pregnant Women or those trying to become pregnant should consult their doctor before taking these supplements as should Diabetics. Their use in children maybe carefully monitored and limited as the iron content can be harmful in high doses.
Prices vary per size of bottle but retail for the following prices and can be purchased both instore and online.
60 Caplets for £3.99
120 Caplets for £7.25
240 Caplets for £13.99
480 Caplets for £23.05
They are not the cheapest supplement on the market and many of the super markets own brands are much cheaper. However with these Holland & Barrett ABC Plus your getting a brand you know as well as a product that is very comprehensive and a great way to ensure your health. Read the complete review |

Tesco Childrens Chewable Multi Vitamin
by xmum2threex
My children have all been poorly with a nasty winter bug this year, and so I became a little worried when they were not eating. We decided we would pick up some multi vitamins for them to make sure they will still getting the vitamins they needed to get better. I had spoken to my health visitor before when my son was refusing to eat and ... she said it was perfectly fine to give them vitamins to top up their intake, as long as it isn't used for a long time solution. The first time we paid around £1.60 for a pot of 60 tablets. I think this is reasonable especially as there were other similar things for more than double the price. We have recently purchased a new tub but I was only able to find them in a pack of 120 for around £3. They come in forest fruits flavour which to be honest would not have been my first choice if there were different variations available.
I have tried one of these vitamins and they do taste very fruity, but the sweet side of the tablet really takes over. I can see why they would be attractive to children and this seems to work. All of my children are happy to take one, and even my five year old son who does not like take medicine was happy to give them a try. They are orange in colour which confused my children as they expected an orange taste. They are a tablet form rather than a jelly. I was a little worried that chewing them would result in them sticking to your child's teeth, but when I tried one I found they dissolved almost instantly. There was no strange after taste on the whole process was very simple.
These tablets promise to provide vitamins A, C, D and E along with a number of other vitamins and minerals. I was impressed with the percentage as it is a large amount of the recommended dosage for little one. This made me feel a little more at ease with them not eating so much while they were poorly. With a few of the promised vitamins these tablets actually provide 100% of the daily recommended allowance. Now I do not personally use these multi vitamins with my children often, but it does warn if you do so to make sure the child is also receiving a full balanced diet. When I take vitamins I never seem to notice any difference, and it seems to be the same for my children. There are no visual effects, but I do like them to have them while they are sick just to give me peace of mind. I do like to think it helps boost their immune system and fight of the bug but as they had been poorly for a few days anyway it is impossible to tell.
Dosage is one tablet a day for anyone three years and older. Any child under three should not take these vitamins. One downside for me is although they don't particularly look like sweeties; my children still ask if it's time for a sweetie. The sweet taste is perfect for making them fuss free for children, but maybe a little too much. Also the lid is terrible and seems to have no lock on it at all. Sometimes simply placing this into the medicine cupboard results in the lid falling off which can be very dangerous. Of course like with all medicines it should be kept out of reach of children but I do feel you need to take extra care with this poor packaging.
Summary
I know that a balanced diet is essential but I just found when my children were unable to eat these eased my worrying a little. There are no outstanding effects but I like to think these are good for boosting the immune system when your child is feeling a little run down. As you receive so many in the packet they do last for a very long time and I would not say they are overly expensive. My children were happy to take them, and it helped give me peace of mind. I would recommend these tablets to anyone looking for a boost for their children. They are made by Tesco so are only available to purchase there. Read the complete review |

Bassetts Soft & Chewy Multivitamins
by xxfoxyredxx
Just recently I have been really really busy with moving, not just flats but from a town to a city miles and miles away. However my health suddenly decided to play up rather badly. It started with a sinus problem that I feel came from my old flat I have moved out of through its damp and then I got struck by a headache I couldn't shift. ... Add to that I suffer with M.E and multitude of other illnesses as well I felt that I should take some sort of multivitamin and set about finding me some and I found these and decided to give them a whirl and they come from a Poundland store of all places!
The Packaging:
These pastilles come in a really nice metallic berry red coloured box with a picture of people on the front of it playing football and riding bikes and so on and we are clearly told that they are Bassetts & Soft & Chewy' Everyday Health' Multivitamins 'With Blueberry' and that they are suitable for all the family over 6 years of age then other information on the rest of the box includes being told a bit about what the pastilles are good for and a nutritional chart is stated as well as the ingredients and allergy advice being listed with warnings and contact details for the manufacturer being clearly given. Inside my box I have 3 white plastic and silver foil trays containing 10 of the pastilles in each and they are easy to pop out of there and on the foil we are clearly told what they are.
The Pastilles:
Well all you have to do to take one of these is take one of the thick dark round and rubbery feeling pastilles and chew one which takes me about a minute or so to do. They taste a blueberries in a sweet but very natural way and I actually really enjoy them and look forward to one of a morning now!
Not only though are they pleasant tasting they contain lots of vitamins which are vitamins A, C, D3, E, B2 ,B5, B6, B12 and Folic Acid and all quite generously and these vitamins all contribute to giving good wellbeing, bones, muscles and skin, eyes, vitality and are to help boost the immune system. On the back of the box we are clearly told which vitamin is to help with what as well and that information is quite detailed which I really appreciate.
The question is though do I feel better for taking them and the answer is a big fat yes! I can't say if I haven't caught a cough, cold or flu or something because of these because there was no guarantee I was going to catch one whether I was taking these or not of course but I do definitely feel more alert for longer and less tired so on that score these really came up trumps for me.
I am more than happy to take these for the foreseeable even if I do have to pay more like £4.35 for a box of 30 of them (in places like Boots) as I really do think that they work for me!
