In my early 20''s I was suffering with really bad stomach pains and an upset stomach. It took 2 trips to the doctors to be diagnosed with IBS. The doctor prescribed me with peppermint tablets. At first I was dubious with a doctor prescribing herbal medication but it really did work! To save going to and from the doctors I just buy the peppermint tablets from boots as they are exactly the same as what the doctor prescribed. I take a tablet 3 times a day just before meals and my IBS is generally great while taking these ? I just get the odd flair up now and then but nothing in comparison to what it was. I am so glad that my doctor prescribed these tablets as I feel better knowing that it is a herbal tablet as I have been taking them for 6 years now. I do find that I burp a lot more than I ever used to but this really is the only side effect so it is completely liveable.
I have suffered with IBS since my teens but rather than dealing with it I have just changed my diet to help with the symptoms, pasta, fruit and vegetables are not good for my stomach. A few months ago I started looking at eating more healthily and decided to try the Slimming World diet however this meant lots of the foods that cause me problems so when I was talking to a friend about it she suggested I try out peppermint oil and told me apparently it is one of the best things for IBS.
I bought these ones from Boots and as these ones are Boots own this is the only place you can buy them, there are similar products on sale elsewhere and a lot of IBS relief tablets are actually mainly peppermint. The tablets cost about £5.50 for a tub which contains 60 capsules, they are 200mg in strength.
The tablets come in a small white plastic tub and the detailing on the tub is in blue, the tub is very simple and tells you things such as the dosage, the ingredients and Boots contact details.
The capsules can be taken by adults and children over 12, you are instructed to take 1 capsule per day. The capsules look like the shape of a rugby ball so you would think that they would be easy to swallow however I actually find they feel like they stick on my throat but I follow the tablet with a glass of water anyway so this gets rid of that feeling.
When you take these they help you burp quite a bit and this brings back a lovely taste of peppermint which is quite nice however I sometimes feel like I am about to get heartburn when I burp but it passes really quickly. The tablets work really well and my stomach felt better within the first day of using the product.
I have since been to the doctor who has prescribed me some peppermint oil tablets, these are a bit of a pain in that I have to take them 3 times per day but this keeps the level constant and helps me feel fine all day whereas the Boots ones being once a day meant I felt worse later in the day.
If you have any digestive problems or feel heavy, bloated and cramping then I would suggest giving these a try, they are easy to use, a decent price when you think they last 2 months and they work brilliantly, they lose a star from me due to the fact of the effects not lasting long enough.
I have recently not been well and had a dodgy stomach and so after going to the doctor to see what would settle my stomach from being in so much pain due to what I was eating I was told about these Peppermint Oil capsules. They are not something that I've ever heard of before but if anything could help soothe my stomach then I was willing to give it a try as it was affecting me at work and so I went to my nearest Boots store and chose Boots own brand capsules.
These come in a silver sort of cylinder capsule shape plastic container and they are colour coded with blue labels. This has the Boots logo and states that this is Peppermint Oil in 200mg measures which is good for digestive health. The front of the container also states that you should take one a day and that in a single container you get 60 capsules. The reverse of the container has more facts about taking these and it is also in an easy open container.
PEPPERMINT OIL CAPSULES 200mg
These capsules are not suitable for children under 12 years old and if you are pregnant you should consult a doctor before taking these. The peppermint oil helps to support a healthy digestive system and normal functioning off the digestive tract. The container is very easy to open, you just give the lid a light squeeze and then turn it anti-clockwise and then you will have the lid off and then you can see all of the capsules sitting inside, they just look like cod liver oil and other capsules of the same kind.
The reason I chose the Boots own brand over the other competitors on the shelf was that these were to only be taken once a day whereas the others were to be taken up to three times a day which to me seems to be too much and I don't like the idea. So, with these you just take one capsule a day with a glass of water, usually I'll take these after my breakfast just before I go to work. You feel these working within the first hour right away.
I normally find that once I have taken one of these, they do go down really easily but they do cause me to burp a lot after I take them and a peppermint taste comes back on me a lot but I do find that I digest my food so much easier. It also creates a kind of cooling sensation down in my stomach area which soothes it from hurting and although I'd say it takes a full two hours to properly get this to take effect it does make work easier to get through than before I took these.
These are not the worst things to take and they are free from artificial colours, flavours and preservatives, they are also gluten free, lactose free and they are not suitable for vegetarians. The container says you should not exceed the stated dose and these should also be stored in a cool, dry place and away from children. These are good value at sixty capsules in a container and they last a good two months if you follow using them daily.
I would definitely recommend these to anyone who suffers from an up and down digestive system whether it be bloating, wind, stomach cramps or diarrhoea as these are all symptoms of a digestive system that is not working well. Moreso in the sense if this is going on for a very long time then you may need to use these, I am pleased so far with these and I am onto my third month now, I no longer have to be ill and suffer at work.
To buy these you can get them in Boots for £5.65 for 60 capsules which is expensive but when you think of the cost over 2 months then really it is only £2.82 roughly which isn't bad. They are on a 3 for 3 offer at the moment on the Boots.com website too.
