Just after I had my baby boy my midwife suggested that I needed to take some iron tablets. She said I looked rather pal and tired. I said that that's the way I always look as this was over the winter and my white skin hadn't seen the sun for many months but she said it would still be an idea to get some extra iron inside me. 

Iron in the body helps to maintain healthy blood and circulation and as I had lost quite a bit of blood during delivery I thought it would be a good idea so off I went to Boots to look for some iron tablets. I am not that fussy when it comes to vitamins and tablets and don't really thing you need to go for a brand name as you are just paying extra for the brand and the medicine is just the same as it is in the cheaper shop brand variety so I decided to purchase a bottle of these Boots iron tablets. You can get multivitamins and iron but I decided to go for straight iron tablets as I already take a multivitamin and didn't think I needed to extra vitamins.

A bottle of 60 Boots iron tablets cost me £1.54 which I thought was a great price and as they are one a day tablets this would mean that the bottle would last for 2 months which is a really good length of time. The tablets come in a little bottle and have a child lock cap on which I think is great as I have kids around the house and need to know that they are going to be safe. Its easy to get off, you just push down and twist and the lid comes off fairly easily. The tablets are fairly small so I found no problem swallowing these and they have a sugar shell coating so they do not stick in your throat like I find tablets with no coating do. 

The ingredients of these iron tablets are given on the bottle as, Cellulose, Dicalcium Phosphate, Ferrous Fumarate, Maltodextrin, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulse, Magnesium Stearate, Silicon Dioxide, Colours (Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides), Glycerol. Unfortunately for me after taking these for about a month I developed a serious case of constipation and apparently one of the side effects of taking iron tablets is that you become constipated. Well, that pain alone was enough for me to stop taking these tablets but by that time after taking a blood test at the doctors surgery I found out that my iron levels were up to normal so I did not need to worry about taking the iron tablets anymore. They did the job they were supposed to do, restore my iron count in my blood so I was happy with them but did not like the side effects I had.
