      Definitely worth a try !!


      I am a dancer and i am one of those guys who is quite tall and skinny and find it hard to put on weight and muscle. To aid my dance training i have been doing endless amounts of weights and workouts to try and build up muscle strength but i have been struggling. However about five months ago when i went to the gym i saw one of my friends drinking a protein shake. He highly recommended it and advised me to try it. I took on his advice and in this review i will explain my success.

      Packaging and size

      The container is plastic and is red in colour featuring the 'BSN' logo in yellow and the word 'Syntha 6' in a shiny silver colour written on the front of the tub. The lid is a screw on grey. Syntha 6 is available in two sizes: 2.91 lbs and 5 lbs. The protein shake includes a scoop to measure out the protein.


      Syntha 6 protein powder is available in a range of different flavors which includes: banana, caramel latte, chocolate, choc chip cookie dough, chocolate cake batter, chocolate mint, chocolate peanut butter, cookies and cream, mochaccino, orange smoothie, strawberry and vanilla.

      Cookies and cream taste review!!

      I purchased the biggest size of this protein powder which is 5lbs on Ebay for around £35. I also bought a Maximuscle protein shaker. I do my usual workout of weights and pressups at the end of the day and take the protein shake after my workout. I use low fat milk as to water and it tastes delicious. It tastes like a really good milkshake and the cookie and cream shake has tiny bits of cookie in which is lovely. The powder itself mixes very easily and isn't lumpy but when shaken it produces and thick and creamy texture.

      The results:

      I use Syntha 6 around about 4 times a week for five months and i can honestly say that it has helped me a lot. I have gained lean muscle mass particularly on my arms and chest i have been so impressed by the results. I have gained weight as well which has certainly helped me with my dance training for lifts.

      Things to note:

      Syntha 6 should not be used as a replacement for a meal and should be used with as part of a healthy and nutritional diet. When trying to gain muscle i have learnt that nutrition is fundamentally important i eat a lot more vegetables and chicken as well as taking the protein powder.

      I would highly recommend this protein powder i have been amazed at the results i have achieved. It can be used as a pre or post workout drink and can be mixed with porridge which is also delicious. I highly recommend the cookie and cream flavour it tastes amazing.

      How can you not love something which has chocolate peanut butter in its name!

      I love to train with weights. I am at my most calm and content when I am in the gym, surrounded by Olympic bars and bumper plates. However, whilst my training goes from strength to strength my nutrition has not been the best. I have finally realised that my failure to put as much effort into my nutrition as my training has held me back from my goal of becoming leaner. In light of this I now use Syntha-6 to help me achieve this goal.

      ----What is Syntha-6?-----

      Syntha-6 is a protein supplement intended to help individuals shape their physique in conjunction with training. Protein provides the building blocks of muscle growth. It is helpful whether you are trying to lose body fat or looking to put on some size. If you are trying to build muscle Syntha-6 can help you get enough calories and protein for growth whilst it can help those wanting to drop body fat by aiding in retaining muscle.

      Syntha-6 is different from other supplements in that it is a blend of different proteins and it has a nutritional profile which contains more carbohydrates and fat than a strictly whey based protein supplement.
      Its nutritional profile is as follows - per serving (44g) - calories 200, protein 22g, 14g carbohydrate, 6g fat.

      ----Do I need Syntha-6?----

      You certainly do not need a protein supplement as there are many different protein sources available to hit your protein requirements and a varied diet rich in nutrients should provide this. However, for people who have to rush from gym to workplace or class it can act as a substitute meal on the go. Its also good for people (typically guys) trying to put on some mass and simply don't have a big appetite therefore getting your calories and protein from a drink makes it easier to stomach than a plateful of chicken!

      ----How to make it?----

      I always make mine with water but you can mix it with milk if you want more calories, protein and tag a long carbs, personally after a heavy workout the thought of downing milk makes me feel ill! Syntha-6 comes with a scoop which measures out the amount needed for one serving so simply put a scoop (or your desired amount of servings) into water or milk into a shaker bottle or simply mix in with a spoon.

      ----How to use it?----

      How you use Syntha-6 is really dependent on your goals and preferences. The most important thing to bear in mind is that it is a supplement and not a replacement for a good diet - in other words don't become dependent on it and continually use it instead of other protein sources.

      I tend to use it about three times a week in some shape or form. I tend not to be hungry first thing in the morning but I also always workout in the morning so I need to eat something in order that I don't collapse during my workout, I take syntha-6 and that qualifies as breakfast! I also use it post workout as after a gruelling workout your body is in need of nutrition - just because you are not hungry doesn't mean your muscles aren't!

      You can also mix it in to porridge to make pro-oats (protein oats)! Sounds gross but when you are dieting down as I am you take your pleasures where you find them! It transforms porridge into a pudding (in dieting terms!) and I normally add some peanut butter or chocolate chips to make it into a treat so I don't feel deprived.

      ----Taste and Mixibility-----

      Syntha-6 comes in a variety of different flavours and the one I have used extensively is chocolate peanut butter. Arguably most protein powders serve a similar purpose so the thing that really differentiates them is taste and texture. I have tried so many protein concoctions and Syntha-6 ranks among the best! It mixes really well with no lumps and you don't even need a shaker bottle you can just mix it in with a spoon. There is no chalky after taste which is the case with most protein drinks. Another nice touch is that it has tiny crunchy cookie balls in it which add to the taste and texture. It tastes satisfyingly chocolatey and has a hint of nuttyness which makes it even more delicious! I am a peanut butter addict so anything to wean me off the stuff is an added bonus!

      Even when it is made with water it is really creamy, smooth and tastes like a milkshake. I actually look forward to my post work-out shake as it is so delicious! It is great to get a hit of chocolate which satisfies cravings as well as getting in some quality protein.

      -----Price and Availability----

      Syntha-6 is widely available online and comes in different sized tubs - 1.36kg and 2.2kg. I purchased a 2.2kg tub from ebay for £36. This is expensive when comparing how much protein you get for your buck to a whey (a protein derived from milk) based protein supplement where you can expect to pay £14 for a 1kg bag. For a whey based protein supplement you can typically expect 24g of protein per 33g serving whereas with syntha-6 you get 22g protein per 44g serving with a much higher carb and fat content.


      Syntha-6 is not some magic potion which will transform you into a lean machine or tank overnight but it can certainly aid in getting adequate nutrition for recovery and muscle building purposes. It tastes great, is convenient and is great for meals on the go. However, there are many other brands which do the exact same thing for a lower price and with a better macro nutritional profile. I would maybe purchase this in future as it tastes great but in the meantime I have a whole cupboard full of whey protein to get through! If you are strapped for cash I would look elsewhere but if you want to treat yourself or are a protein supplement junkie like me then it's a good option to try. Regardless of what protein supplement you use do not neglect your training!
