Advantages: Easy to take, cheap, high in Vitamin A, D and Omega 3

Disadvantages: Can't think of any other than remembering to take it

Although I think my diet is very good and varied (well Monday to Friday), I decided about a year ago it was time to introduce some multivitamins and oils into my diet to make sure I was getting all the essential oils and vitamins my body needed and which I may have missed from food sources. I had heard good reports on Cod Liver Oil from a guy a train with in the gym, he is getting on a bit and has been training for years and swears that a daily dose of Cod Liver Oil helps his ageing joints. Having suffered from a dislocated knee a few years ago and having intermittent Cartilage problems in the other knee I decided that Cod Liver Oil was something that should definitely be including in my new vitamin regime.

First off I bought the bottle of Cod Liver and intended taking a teaspoon a day, big mistake this stuff does not take good at all, maybe the name put me off and I was expecting it to be bad but it is certainly not something I could take daily like that. Anyway on my next visit to Holland and Barrett, I found that they sold this in capsule form which is how I take my Evening Primrose Oil (although this tastes better than the Cod Liver) and opted to give a tub a go. I think I paid about £5 odd for my first 120 capsules but Holland and Barrett like most High Street Retailers these days always seem to be running some sort of promotion or Buy One Get One Half Price so I usually pick my Cod Liver Oil capsules up a bit cheaper.

I have found the capsules to be a godsend compared to trying to force down a teaspoon of oil. My daily routine upon waking is to take all of my vitamins and oils with my morning Protein Shake so I don't forget.

A bit about Cod Liver oil in general it is a good source of vitamin A and D and also contains Omega 3 (I keep hearing that this is good for you). It is supposed to be good for your heart, bones, nails and hair and also as I have already mentioned be good for your joints. The only downside I have read about Cod Liver Oil is that you may end up getting too much Vitamin A which is apparently not good for pregnant woman.

It is hard to say if my body has seen any benefits from taking Cod Liver Oil but it is modestly priced and in capsule form no hassle to take so I will continue to use it as part of my daily diet.

Summary: Capsules V Bottled Oil, 1 winner!
