I ordered these pills online from the Holland and Barret website for just under £8 for 100. They come in a little green pot which has a clip lid which is easily opened and closed and are of no risk of spilling out. That said this is still an easy container for children to open, so like all medical tablets, they should we kept well out of reach.
I take one pill daily to help with the support of normal function of the immune system and the maintenance of normal skin, hair and nails. I used to have especially fragile nails, and since taking these pills ive noticed much less damage and chipping, and they never break anymore. My hair appears more healthy, although i haven't had anyone else notice a difference. As for my skin, i origionaly got these tablets as i thought they might help with the little bit of acne i still have from my teenage years, however it hasnt really made a difference. This isnt a big problem as it was never too severe, but its still a bit of a pain. Its difficult to say whether they have supported my immune system, as of course im completely unaware as to whether my immune system has had to battle anything off recently, or whether it was working normally before i started taking the tablets.
The pills themselves are small and oval shapes, about the same size as a paracetamol. The tablets are not marked by either indented words or printed, so it is key that you leave them in thei origional packaging as not to confuse them with any other tablets. The capsules are coated and easy to swallow, they leave no dryness in your mouth and due to the coating they are not powdery. The maximum strength tablets are 25mg Zinc Picolinate. One thing which does concern me is that in the Nutritional Information is claims that each tablet contains 250% of your recommended daily allowance of Zinc, so please ensure you do not take more than one a day, and due to this information when ive finished this bottle i will probably move down onto a weaker dose in order to fit more with the recommended allowance.
Although these tablets are not strictly made for these benefits, zinc also supports:
Normal cell devision
The mainenance or normal vision
Normal fertility and reproduction
I think they are a good handy product if you feel as though you need a little extra boost in any of the catagories stated.
I picked these supplements up last year in Holland and Barrett mainly for the benefits that zinc gives in terms of helping to maintain good skin, hair and nails. A bottle of 250 tablets cost £18.65 and I got them on a 'buy one and get one for a penny deal', so they do not seem so expensive. They pills come in a green plastic bottle with a screw top lid that is easy to use and stays in place. The pills are protected by a sealed waxy and paper cover on first opening, this peels off easily.
The pills themselves are fairly small and round and I find them easy to swallow with a bit if water, they do not really have a taste, unless you do not swallow them properly the first time round and they get a bit wet, then they taste a bit chalking and herbally, though not overly unpleasant.
Each pill is supposed to be taken each day, with water and before food, each 25g pill contains your recommend daily allowance of zinc, the full ingredient list if as follows:
Zinc Gluconate, Bulking Agents (Microcrystalline Cellulose, Dicalcium Phosphate), Stabiliser (Calcium Carbonate), Anti-Caking Agents (Stearic Acid, Silicon Dioxide, Magnesium Stearate), Glazing Agents (Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Glycerine, Carnauba Wax)
As with all food supplements they should only be taken to substitute a well balanced diet. They are not recommended if you are pregnant, under 18, breastfeeding or taking medicine on a regular basis. The pills do not contain any artificial colours, flavours, sweeteners, preservatives or salt and sugar. They are also free from starch, corn, milk, lactose, soya, gluten, wheat, yeast, fish and porcine.
Zinc is supposed to be beneficial for a number of reasons and can help your immune system function, protect from stress, help with fertility, especially in men, helps your vision, skin, hair an nails grow well, and can help with bone development and I am sure there are others as well!
As I said I take zinc to help maintain my skin, hair and nail. I recently had an accident that involved the loss of my thumb nail, it is growing back, and I think the zinc is probably helping it to grow back a little better. I have taken various zinc supplements over the years and am convinced that it helps. The Holland and Barret high strength pills do seem to help with my skin and nail, not sure about my hair, and I also do not suffer from illness vary often so it is probably helping to boost my immune system. Overall, I eat a well balanced, vegetarian diet, and take a few supplements to assist me. My husband also takes these supplements and has taken zinc supplements for years, again to help maintain his skin and also to help to support his immune system, he also would recommend them.
I would recommend these supplements to others as they are easy to swallow, seem to work for me, are well priced when you can get them on a one penny deal and will last for ages.
