A couple of months ago as the weather started to turn; I came down with a really nasty cold. I was hauled up in bed and hadn't eaten much over the last couple of days due to loss of appetite that I had suffered. I was feeling really weak had no energy at all. My mum suggested this to me, she said my Nan swore by it after illnesses, this was what she called a 'pick me up'.
Price and Availability
This comes in 2 sizes as far as I know and price differs accordingly. I brought the 300ml bottle which cost me £4.30 from my local Tesco. The 500ml version is priced at £6.00. So if you find this works for you it is worthwhile to save yourself a bit of money and buy the larger bottle. You will often find that this is in the '3 for 2' offer at Tesco so you can save money this way too. This tonic is readily available in all good pharmacies and supermarket stores.
Adults and children over 12 years old- Take one or two 5ml spoonfuls two or three times a day before meals.
Children 6-12 years- Take one 5ml spoonful two or three times a day before meals.
In both adults and children this can be diluted if required.
Contents of Each 5ml
Each 5ml spoonful contains the following:
Vitamin B- 500 micrograms
Calcium glycerophosphate Ph Eur - 45.6mg
Potassium glycerophosphate- 45.6mg
Sodium glycerophosphate- 22.8mg
Manganese glycerophosphate NFX - 697 micrograms
Inside the box as pictured above is glass bottle of the Metatone tonic. It is bright red is colour, with a syrup like consistency. I took two 5ml spoonful's 3 times a day. I found the taste actually quite nice. It is rather sweet so I'm sure some people won't find it that tasty. I have never diluted this so I cannot comment on the taste of that. I do think this is a good idea for children, as this can simply be mixed in with their drinks, from the age of 6 anyway. I have taken many vitamin tablets but prefer this liquid form.
Did It Work?
On the box it reads...
'FOR USE AFTER ILLNESSES SUCH AS COLDS AND FLU, AND WHEN YOU ARE FEELING TIRED AND RUN DOWN'
This sounded great for me as it described exactly how I was feeling, so I was eager to begin taking it. I'd say it took around 2 days before I started to notice a real difference. I had a lot more energy, and felt bright and refreshed. Even before I was ill I would have stages during the day when I would feel very tired, (normally around 2 in the afternoon) this was gone, and I felt I had a lot more get up and go. I also found it a lot easier to get up in the mornings too, with it being so cold normally it would be the worst thing getting out of bed, but with this I could feel this I was a lot more wide awake.
Some people may think that this is just due to me being over my illness and resuming with normal health, but I can honestly say that I have noticed a real difference in myself. I have continued taking this daily even though my cold has gone, and I am very happy to say that I have not been ill since. I know it's only been two months since I first brought it, but this time of years the colds and flu's seem to come out with a vengeance. Luckily for me I have been free from illness and I do believe that it is down to this.
Would I Recommend?
I would 100% recommend this to anyone. It tastes relatively nice, and you are getting your daily dose of vitamins. So I really can't complain. I've noticed a real difference in myself since taking this, and for the price it really is a must have for all households. Especially this time of year. 5 stars from me.
During the winter months my dad started to complain of being tired, no energy and generally down. He has had a stroke, so when the weather is bad and the dark nights draw in, he can't get out and about on his mobility scooter. This means that he relies on frozen foods with less fresh fruit and he isn't getting enough sunlight. So amongst a few other things (fresh fruit deliveries, a UV therapy lamp) we also bought him some Metatone Tonic to try and ensure his vitamin and mineral levels were topped up (he also takes a daily Sanatogen gold).
Metatone Tonic comes in a box and is quite plain / traditional looking. You can pick it up in most supermarkets and online on Amazon with free delivery, I bought my dad's in Asda. The bottle inside is brown glass with a white plastic safety cap. The bottle is 300ml though smaller and larger versions are available (your chemist might have more to choose between, only the 300ml was available in Asda) and cost £3.51 which I think is good value.
The Metatone Tonic is orange in colour and flavour and having tried some I can state it tastes ever so slightly metallic but since you're only having a spoonful it's perfectly acceptable and my dad actually really likes it so that's good! It is billed on the box as something you take following an illness to boost your wellbeing and metabolism and it comprises a combination of vitamin B1 and four essential minerals.
After only a fortnight of taking it my dad did say he felt he had more energy, obviously we were doing as much as we could to lift his spirits so I can't attribute it all to the Metatone Tonic but he's kept taking it and certainly I can see a difference in him when I visit - a bit more alert, not so drowsy and getting more done around the house. Even when the weather is good he still has his vitamins to keep himself topped up. So overall for the money I'd highly recommend it to anyone who is maybe older, or someone who can't get out as much, or following an illness which has left you a bit drained - it's well worth it and at the price and the convenience of it being so easy to take, then why not.
Overall I do recommend it, I'll give it 4/5, it's not a miracle cure but it is a very welcome helping hand which is certainly worth a try.
In the past couple of years I have had a number of different illnesses and problems that have seen me becoming run down quite frequently. I have tried a number of different suggested vitamins and products during this time and one such product that I have purchased is Metatone Tonic. I purchase mine from Sainsburys and this costs me £4.65 for a 300ml bottle. This is a reasonable price for something that lasts me for around 30 uses.
This is a tonic that is designed to be used when you have been recovering from an illness such as a cold or flu or just when you have been tired or generally run down. Metatone is a combination of Vitamin B1 and essential minerals. This comes in a liquid form and is a strong syrupy looking liquid that is a brownish colour. The colour is very strange and the smell is weird rather than disgusting. It is something that is hard to put a distinctive scent to but I do not find it so unpleasant that I stop drinking it.
This tonic can be taken by children from 6 years upwards. Anyone 12 and under can take one 5ml spoonful up to three times per day before meals and anyone upwards of 12 years can take two 5ml spoonfuls up to three times per day before meals.
When I swallow this tonic the taste is a little bit strange. It is not terribly unpleasant but on the occasion when I take two spoonfuls by the swallowing of the second one I find that the taste of this hits me very strongly and I find myself knowing that I wouldn't be able to stomach another one. I always puts me off for ages afterwards. I feel like this tonic helps to pick me up a lot, it works very find it best to take one spoonful three times a day rather than two just because the second one well for me and it works quickly. I have also given this to my husband when he has been run down and he has found it works well for him too. I feel like this is warming and within just a few minutes of swallowing it I feel like I have had a pick me up and I can get back on with my day a bit better.
If you are looking for something that will pick you up when you have been under the weather then this is probably the tonic for you. The price is reasonable and it will last around 10 days if you use it for the maximum amount each day. This is not to be used on a daily basis for a prolonged period of time without consulting your doctor first.
Review of Metatone Tonic
This tonic is designed to provide a gentle boost during and after illness.
The tonic is widely available from pharmacies, supermarkets and various on line sources. We have purchased this several times over the years and I have found it certainly does aid in recovery by giving your system a kick start. The current price is around £4.50 for a 500ml bottle.
The tonic is presented in a rather old fashioned looking box, white and orange with the Metatone logo on the front and the strap line 'Helps Restore Health & Vitality'.
All instructions and dose information is printed both on the carton and the bottle. The actual tonic is in a brown glass bottle with a child-proof screw topped lid.
The tonic is thick and sticky in texture and it does smell quite nice, although I do find it easy to swallow, I cannot say it is an enjoyable experience!
The taste is, to my palate, ghastly! It tastes very metallic to me and although there is a vaguely orangey after taste, it is not very pleasant. Naturally, everyone's taste is different and my other half really does not mind the flavour of Metatone tonic!
==Ingredients and Dosage==
The Metatone formulation provides a combination of Vitamin B1 and four essential minerals. The tonic is in the form of a liquid so is easy to take. The instructions advise that the tonic can also be taken diluted in water.
I don't pretend to know what half these ingredients are, although I am sure some readers will!

==My Thoughts and Conclusion==
As mentioned, I have used Metatone Tonic on many occasions over the years, in fact it was something my Mother always kept in the medicine cupboard when I was a youngster. The fact that this tonic has been around for years is, I suppose, a positive point in it's favour. The tonic is widely available, no prescription is required and it is certainly worth a try if you need a boost after illness.
Metatone is not the most pleasant thing to take, I really do not like the taste, but I have to admit that it does seem to help to restore my well-being after an illness such as a cold or flu virus.
Of course, a tonic should not be taken constantly and medical advice should be sought if your symptoms continue.
I would recommend Metatone to anyone who is feeling a little run-down or off colour.
I am awarding Metatone Tonic a 3* rating due to the nasty taste.
Thank you for reading.

I paid £4.49 for this tonic from my local pharmacy. I had been ill with flu for three weeks or so and I felt like I needed a little something to help me get back to my usual self.
The tonic comes in a glass bottle and it contains enough for around two weeks, depending how much of it you use of course. The tonic tastes nice. I would describe the taste as orangey and tangy - very pleasant and sweet. It is sweet but it's not too sugary and you only need a small amount of it at a time to perk you up. You can add it to water if you like, although I prefer it neat. Adding it to water doesn't really do anything for me.
The tonic successfully helped me get back to my usual self. It helped me to recover, giving me more energy and vitality. It also helped to add vitamins and minerals to my system and it helped me to focus more whilst I was at work - as my head was still full of cold and I was still all bunged up. It certainly helps to clear stuffy heads.
The tonic is good for you as it does contain a high number of vitamins and minerals and it tastes nice aswell. It's widely available to buy - I have seen it in supermarkets and in some local chemists.
I would recommend this tonic as it does work.
Great stuff for when you're recovering!
I've used Metatone a few times, usually during the winter months when I always seem to pick up cold after cold and struggle to shake them off. Its purpose is to give you a boost and improve your immune system to help fend off bugs and illness. It's also used to get back to full strength after illness.
The tonic comes in a brown bottle with a screw lid, and I usually swig it straight from the bottle so I'm not sure what colour the tonic itself is. I find the taste isn't overly offensive, it doesn't really taste like medicine. It had a sweet taste and I didn't mind taking the tonic each morning.
I used to feel much better after taking the tonic, I think party for psychological reasons because it made me feel like I was doing something to make me better. It always helped to take it for short bursts and I would always manage to shrug off my cold or flu. At one point last winter my partner and I were both using it, due to lots of illnesses in short succession. My partner had pneumonia so was quite poorly for a while, and took this tonic as he was getting better to help him get back to full strength as he was feeling very weak.
The bottle costs around £8 from most pharmacies. This was for the larger bottle and you shouldn't really need to buy another one unless everyone in the household is using it, as by the time you've finished the bottle you should be back to full health. I think it's worth the money given the health benefits, and it's a well trusted brand which I know a lot of people rely on.
A couple of weeks before Christmas I got his with my first bout of the cold and flu virus that everyone seems to be getting but cannot get rid of! I am currently still trying to get rid of it some our weeks later myself. It was suggested to me by another parent in the school yard that I pick up a bottle of metatone tonic from the chemist as it is a vitamin tonic which is designed for use after illness and when you are feeling tired and run down.
I went to my local chemist and picked up a bottle of the tonic which cost me around £4.50 for a 300ml bottle.
The metatone tonic comes in quite an old fashioned looking white box with some orange strips and the red product name. It looks sort of medicinal to me which I guess it is in a way!
The box tells us that the metatone contains a combination of vitamin B1 and four essential minerals in a liquid formula which helps to provide a gentle boost during and after illness. There are other tonics on the market which contain different things so it is worth checking which may be best for you. I have personally used the seven seas tonic and found it to be of great quality.
When you open up the metatone tonic box you can pull out a brown glass bottle with a white screw top lid-now this really does look medicinal! When you take off the lid a really horrible smell hits you and I have to say I was dreading taking it! It is handy to note that you can actually dilute the tonic with a drink if you feel you would find it easier to take it that way.
The dosage information is as follows:
Adults and children over 12: One or two 5ml spoonfuls, two or three times daily before meals
Children 6-12: One 5ml spoonful, two or three times daily before meals.
So came the taste test! The first 5ml spoonful I swallowed was ok, not pleasant by any means, but it was ok. The second 5ml spoonful I took immediately after made me gag and left an awful taste in my mouth! This pattern continued for a few days before I decided to take one large spoonful instead of two small spoons and this worked better for me. The taste was not nice but it no longer made me gag so it was more manageable.
After a few days of taking the metatone tonic I have to say I did seems to feel brighter and less like I needed to sleep all the time which, as a single mum, was not something I was able to do anyway! I feel that this tonic did help make it possible for me to feel well enough to return to work after a couple of days off and so I cannot fault it for this at all. However, I have also used the seven seas tonic in the past and it's sweet orangey syrup beats metatones purple runny strange tasting liquid hands down! The seven seas tonic also works well and so I feel I would opt for that in the future.
Thank you for reading my review!
Unfortunately some winters I get stuck in a cold cycle, where I get run down and get one after the other and can't seem to break the cycle. Someone recommended a tonic to get me up and running again.
Metatone tonic comes in a cardboard box (100% recyclable) in a brown glass bottle. It has a wite metal screw on and off lid. Make sure you store it up right as the lid can leak once opened and re sealed. It costs around £7-8 for 500ml from Tesco and can be bought from other supermarkets, pharmacies or health food shops.
The tonic is brown in flavour and doesn't have a nice taste. It doesn't taste artificial where a nice 'fake' taste has been added, so even though you have to stomach it as it is, you do get the bonus that it tastes like it is doing you good! The texture is thick and sticky, and worth washing down with a gulp of milk afterwards!
Depending on your age and size, you have to take one to a couple of tea spoons full per day.
You may thing tonic is old fashioned, but I genuinely feel better after taking this for a few days, I feel like I have had the boost I really really need. This is like a fantastic multi vitamin drink, well balanced and perfect for keeping you, or getting you, healthy fit and well.
Tonics are the new vitamins tablets! Take this to make you feel better and vanish the winter blues and down times.
More often than not I am run down. I have several health problems including a spine and back problem, hypothyroidism and an eating disorder. Of course having an eating disorder can lead to all sorts of problems such as low potassium levels and I'm prone to every cough, cold and flu bout going. I am tired alot due to hypothyroidism as well as the eating disorder and I'm the only person my doc has ever met with a low active thyroid and being a bulimic! I'm a medical marvel lol.
However I do try to combat this. I try my best to eat as well as I can, get fresh air and live a life. I can of course take humoungous amounts of medication if I wanted to (I don't even have to pay prescriptions anymore lol) but I get worried about what I'm shoving into my body and its not like I am not doing myself enough damage as it is!
I like natural remedies to try combat fatigue and boost me and my mood slightly. Of course I don't expect miracles and I'm talking about M.E fatigue and really, over the years I have found little to help with this.
However I was in Boots and saw this Metatone Tonic and I checked on my Boots advantage card and had enough points to get it free so thought oh well what the heck at least its not costing me owt so I'll give it a whirl!
This comes in a couple of sizes and I purchased the smaller of the two which is a 300ml bottle. It comes in a bright yellow and white box to which the front and the back are the same in appearance and I am told in black, red and white writing that it is Metatone 'Original Flavour' Tonic 'For use after illness such as colds and flu, and when you are feeling tired and run down' and that it 'Helps restore health and vitality'. Other information listed on the box includes being told a little bit about the product and dosage information and ingredients are listed, the size is stated and contact details for Chefaro UK Ltd (the manufacturer of the product) are given. The bottle is hefty brown glass with a white screw on/off cap/lid to the top of it, it has the same colour-scheme as the box going on, on the label and the same information. All in all this looks like a medical product and of course there is a pamphlet inside with yet more information on it.
Directions For Use:
Adults and children over 12 years: One or two 5 ml spoonfuls, two or three times daily before meals (dilute if required).
Children 6-12 years: One 5 ml spoonful, two or three times daily before meals (dilute if required).
What this is, is a dark burgundy, transparent liquid. It isn't thick and it's like coloured water really in its appearance only dark lol. It contains Vitamin B1 along with four other essential minerals. It is a sweet, fruity sort of of liquid with the emphasise on sweet here as it does contain sucrose and glucose syrup. It has a very slight menthol undertone to it and I don't mind the taste of it at all. If you do of course you can dilute it but me, personally, I would rather just get it out the way and I take the maximum dose of this daily.
I didn't think I'd be saying this believe me but I rate this highly and take it religiously. It really does pep me up, re-energises me and focuses me really well. After having flu recently I was left half dead and this in no time picked me up. If I feel tired I feel instantly rejuvenated and all I can think of it, is that is must boost sugars levels!
Not being horrid to take helps and since purchasing my first bottle of this I have ordered a few more from Amazon to make sure I don't run out any time soon! I think its great, it isn't expensive and pretty much none harmful to most people!
Available in all good chemists and supermarkets etc and expect to pay about £3.99 for the 300ml bottle and £6.99 for the the 500ml bottle size.
