Worked great for me but just too expensive

I have been a bzz agent now for a while and I get some great items to test at home. Basically I just had to test them and write my thoughts about them on the bzz agent website.

I received the box through the post with 30 tablets in. The box states taking one tablet a day helps to improve energy levels which has supposedly been scientifically proven! There are a lot of ingredients listed on the box and it also recommends people who shouldn't take them such as if your pregnant etc so I would recommend reading before you take them. They have your daily allowance of vitamins and minerals in as well so whilst taking them I didn't take my normal vitamins. The tablets were sealed in a foil packaging so they were all separate and were easy to push out. The tablets are much bigger than any other supplement tables I normally take and I wasn't sure about even trying them as I struggle to swallow tablets anyway. I did decide to try them and they weren't as bad as I thought as they are smooth so are quite easy to swallow.

I took the whole months worth of tablets and did feel an improvement in my energy and concentration levels after around 10 days. I was quite surprised actually as I didn't think i would notice a change. I am young, quite healthy and fit so I have lots of energy anyway. Whilst taking these tablets though I could do a 10 hour shift at work and still come home and tidy up, cook, clean and not feel absolutely exhausted.

On the odd occasion I need find it difficult to drop off to sleep but I'm not sure if this was due to the tablets or just because I was over thinking and my mind was doing overtime.

I did want to continue taking these tablets but I was shocked with the price tag of nearly £10. I pay less than £1 for my current vitamins and although they don't have the same effect as the pharmaton active life tablets I just cannot justify paying £10 for them. For the effect the tablets had I would give 5 stars but because of the price I am going to give them 3 stars.

Might work for you but did nothing to put the zing back into me

      PHARMATON Active Life

I am a Bzz Agent and my most recent campaign that i have been invited to take part in was this Pharmaton Active life. I am not great at taking pills and additives as I always forget and because we have a fairly healthy diet with lots of fruit and vegetables and most meals cooked ourselves I don't worry too much. I did however make a huge effort to remember these after breakfast each morning and having now only got about five pills left I thought it was time to give my views.

These are sold in Boots and seem to be on special at buy 2 get one free of you are interested. In each packet you get 30 'easy to swallow caplets' in a blister pack. If these are caplets then I wouldn't like to see the capsules as these pills are pretty whopping in my view. I couldn't possibly swallow one without a drink and even then sometimes they get a bit stuck in my throat.

I have just discovered the price of these in Boots! I don't think even with my £2 off voucher that I will be rushing to buy these at £7 for a pack.

Taken from their website and brochure

"They are scientifically proven to gradually build and sustain energy levels.
Clinically proven to relieve tiredness and periods of fatigue. Enhances mental and physical capacity.
Supports your active, busy life with a unique formula of Ginseng, Vitamins and Minerals.

Pharmaton's benefits has been demonstrated in over 30 scientific trials and studies. The unique formulation of Ginseng G115, vitamins and minerals in Pharmaton is proven to:
      Help maintain quality of life
      Sustain mental and physical performance
Help sustain alertness, relaxation and well-being"

      They also state that:
"For Pharmaton® Vitality Capsules many clinical trials have been conducted and all indicate that the product is helpful in enhancing cognitive function and improving psychological conditions and physical performance. One clinical trial has shown that the combination of vitamins, minerals and trace elements and the standardised G115® Ginseng extract contained in Pharmaton® Vitality Capsules improves quality of life more effectively than the same combination without Ginseng."

Well obviously the Ginseng is the important ingredient and it seems the benefits of this Chinese herb and many and varied. The Ginseng in these pills is Ginseng G115, now I can't claim to be a Ginseng expert and have no idea what other types there are. I do know some Ginseng comes from berries and some from the root and there are different types too. In fact there are several species of Ginseng which each have different properties . The one most studied with pharmacological trials is the specie Panax Ginseng, contained in Pharmaton® Vitality Capsules.

Ginseng can help hair re-growth, possibly help with those suffering with DiabetesII but more research needs to be done before this can be proven. It can help with weight loss, improve your skin by stimulating blood circulation and promoting cell regeneration. There have been some initial studies to check claims that ginseng helps with male sexual dysfunction and also for helping with women's menopausal hormone imbalances. It has also been suggested that it can lower blood pressure.

It is not without side effects though and as a herbal medication many people may have an allergic reaction. Other side effects may include nausea and dizziness for some while for others it helps with these symptoms.
It can also cause fatigue and migraine headaches which is rare, it's still a possibility.

I found that last side effect quite interesting considering these pills are supposed to be giving me increased energy levels!

The vitamins and mineral in these pills include; Beta-carotene, Vitamin B1 (Thiamine), Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin), Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine), Vitamin B12 (Cyanocobalamin), Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid), Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Vitamin B3 (Niacin, Nicotinamide, Vitamin PP), Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid),Vitamin H (Biotin), Vitamin B9 (Folic Acid)

Vitamins are needed to keep the body running efficiently in many different ways which i won't go into here. They are vital for cell growth, blood formation, proper functioning of the nervous system, and to assist with the prevention of illnesses.

Minerals are needed in order that our body is able to grow, function , develop and stay healthy. balance and well being. In these pills you will find Magnesium and Calcium. The trace elements found in the pills include Iron, Copper, Zinc and Selenium.

These are for adults and not children and they should NOT be taken by pregnant ladies or those breast feeding. Those on blood thinning medication should also not take these without checking with a doctor first.

They also contain lactose so if you have a lactose allergy then avoid them.

For all those budding Olympians out there these have been tested and declared free from any doping substance, according to the guidelines of the International Olympic Committee.

These capsules contain peanut oil and should not be taken by people known to be allergic to peanut. Because of a possible link between peanut and to soya allergies if you are allergic to soya then don't take these.

They are not vegetarian because they have Gelatine in them and the gelatine is derived from both pork and beef sources.

Taken from the website:" Cases of headache, dizziness, insomnia, gastrointestinal reactions (such as nausea, stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhoea) and hypersensitivity reactions (such as rash, pruritus) have been observed."

I religiously took these for a month as instructed and I can honestly say I feel absolutely no difference at all. I feel no extra energy, I may be more alert but I can't say we have won the quiz any more frequently and I still get upstairs and forget what i went up there for.

We do have a pretty healthy diet but I am not really very active. We walk quite a lot when on holiday or visiting places but in reality I should do a lot more but somehow just seem to run out of time and I also lack the enthusiasm if I am honest. I am happy to do the housework and gardening and run around after the grand children but just to walk for the sake of walking doesn't really enthuse me .

I can't say that I have felt any more enthusiastic about taking exercise. Maybe I have felt a bit more guilty, I wonder if that counts?

The only slight thing that I have noticed is that despite reading until about midnight every night I feel quite alert and ready to start the day when I get up in the morning and that time can vary between 6.30 am and 7.30 depending on what my husband is doing. On golf days he gets up early and so I follow and on another day he does the school run and looks after the grandchildren before school and also gets up at 6.30 hence me doing the same as I feel guilty if I stay in bed after he is up.

Not at the price they are in Boots £7 and Amazon £7.25 a pack of 30 which seems expensive to me but if I used one of my £2 voucher and then 3 for the price of 2 - not sure if you could use two vouchers and often they will only let you use one offer too, Oh well I can't say I am that bothered. I have a few vouchers to share around but no one has wanted them when I have offered. I think I shall have to hang around the display in Boots and see of anyone is going to buy them and give one to them.

I am not sure whether these did anything at all for me and I certainly won't be spending any money on something with effects this hidden sorry Pharmaton Active you were not for me.

Thanks for reading. This review may be posted on other sites under my same user name.

Too much of a boost for me - I'll be sticking to my normal multi vitamin.

I was sent a month's supply of Pharmaton Active Life as part of a BzzAgent campaign. I was given a pack of 30 tablets in its brightly coloured box. Pharmaton say that these tablets, if taken every day, will give that little extra lift. And we all need a little more energy from time to time, so I was happy to give them a go.

Each pack contains 30 orange-brown caplets. They are about the size of standard pain killers. I found them easy to swallow with a drink. They're not cheap - £9.99 at Boots for a month's supply (October 2012).

The packet claims that the "specific combination of unique Ginseng G115, vitamins and minerals can help you stay at your best, supporting your active, busy life". Because Pharmaton Active Life contains vitamins, it is not a good idea to take any other vitamin supplements at the same time, to avoid taking more than the recommended daily dose (RDA). Nor should you take Pharmaton Active Life is you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Panax ginseng extract G115,Betacarotene, Vitamin D3, Vitamin E, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Ascorbic acid, Nicotinamide, Biotin, Folic acid, Selenium, Iron, Zinc, Copper, Manganese, Magnesium, Calcium

I was looking forward to some extra energy - with 3 teenagers, a husband, a job and a household to run, I need all the help I can get! I noticed no difference for the first 3-4 days; however, the product makes it clear that it takes a while for the effect to build up, so I wasn't expecting an instant result.

After a 5 or 6 days, I started to feel a little edgy and nervous - like I'd been drinking strong coffee all day. I certainly had more energy, but it wasn't a pleasant feeling. I don't drink anything that contains caffeine, having kicked my 25 cups of coffee a day habit 10 years ago. I checked that I hadn't mixed up the decaf tea and coffee with the full caff versions that I buy for the other members of my family. After about 10 days, I stopped taking the Pharmaton Active Life. I was just feeling shaky and anxious. Within a couple of days, I was back to my normal, chilled, laid back self.

I did some research and it seems that Ginsing is a stimulant similar to caffeine, so it's hardly surprising that made me feel like I had been main-lining coffee. If I had realised this before starting the month, I would not have commenced the trial.

It's not all bad. As a caffeine free zone, I am sure that I reacted atypically to the Pharmaton Acrtive Life. It did give me more energy and I think that, for a caffeine drinker, they would give a pleasant, gentle lift. But I will be sticking to my normal multi vitamin, a balanced diet and as much fresh air as I can get. Hopefully, that will provide the lift without the shakes!
