Review of Sainsbury's Vitamin C Orange Flavoured Effervescent Tablets
As the name implies these vitamin tablets are designed to be dissolved in water. The tablets contain vitamin C. The tablets are presented in an orange coloured, plastic tube with a white prise off lid. The word 'Defend' is in a bold white font running vertically down the tube.
The container is very eye-catching and certainly stands out on the supermarket shelf.
The price is £1.20 for 20 tablets. Currently Sainsbury's have a buy 2 get 1 free offer, so it is worth stocking up!
The white tablets are approximately the same size as £1 coin. I take mine in the morning at breakfast time, I simply drop the tablet into a tumbler of cold water and wait for it to finish fizzing before drinking.
The drink is a pleasant orange flavour, it is slightly sparking and has a really delicious taste. It is slightly sweet and really does taste of orange. The colour of the drink is a pale orange shade.
A Brief Look At The Health Benefits
Vitamin C is vital for good health, most people will know about the benefits of vitamin C and in which foods it is found, fruit and vegetables.
Vitamin C is known to boost the immune system. Studies have been made into the use of Vitamin C for the prevention of colds, research shows that it helps reduce the severity of symptoms and may shorten the length of a cold by a day or so.
Vitamin C is also found in our bones, teeth, tendons and blood vessels. It is also important for wound healing.
Vitamin C works in the body as an antioxidant, meaning it helps protect cells in the body from damage caused by free radicals . It is known to protect our bodies from certain cancers and it helps us absorb iron.
Most people who eat a good balanced diet will obtain adequate amounts of vitamin C from their food. Supplements are ideal for those who feel their diet is lacking in the necessary nutrients or who cannot eat certain foodstuff for various reasons. This is why I choose to take supplements.

Warnings:- Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. * If pregnant or planning a pregnancy, seek medical advice before taking supplements. * Not recommended for children under 12. * Replace lid securely.
Store in a cool, dry place.
I am not going to list the ingredients here as to be honest, they mean very little to me and I am sure most readers do not want to trawl through a list that sounds like a chemists stock list. What I will say is that these tablets do not contain any artificial flavour or colours, and are suitable for vegetarians.
My Thoughts and Conclusion
I do eat a reasonable amount of fruit and vegetable based foods, however I am a very fussy eater, so I do worry that I may not be eating enough. I am a vegetarian and a smoker and there has been research conducted which shows that smoking may reduce vitamin C absorption. Therefore I chose to take supplements.
The Sainsburys Vitamin C Effervescent Tablets suit me and lifestyle very well. Like many people, I am not very good at swallowing tablets, so being able to take this supplement in a convenient drink format makes it ideal for me. The taste nice, they are easy to use and are easier for me to take than pills. The price is realistic and in my opinion they represent very good value for money in comparison to other brands of supplements.
I would recommend these Sainsbury's Vitamin C tablets to others who feel their diet needs the addition of a food supplement.
Thank you for reading.
