Superdrug Vitamin C Tablets
Advantages: Cheap, Convenient, Do the Job!
Disadvantages: Although chewable, quite powdery and difficult to swallow.
I remember as a child my parents used to give me those jelly shaped vitamins that I used to think tasted like sweets, so I was never too bothered about getting my vitamins. As I have developed into an adult, vitamins have been the last thing on my mind and I never really think to buy them as all in all I am in pretty good health! However, when I moved away and into university halls, I seemed to be bunged down with flu and illness constantly, and the only reasoning for this could be the fact that there were hundreds of people living around me on a day to day basis, as well as sitting in lecture halls of hundreds of people sniffing and coughing. My friend suggested that I try taking some vitamins to see how this helped me and to improve my immune system overall.
After trying various medications such as throat sweets, Lemsips, painkillers, nothing seemed to be doing the trick. I was willing to try out anything, and as vitamins are fairly cheap, I picked up a packet from Superdrug of their own branded Vitamin C. Obviously you can purchase vitamin C from a range of retailers, but I was in Superdrug at the time and just opted to try out this one. Obviously you can only buy this from their stores and it may be online on their website. I have forgot the actual price which I paid for these, but I'm sure it was in the region of £3.00 to £4.00 so fairly cheap for the amount you get inside. There are various alternatives of this including smaller packets which are cheaper, however I went for 180 tablets so that it could keep me going throughout my days at University.
It comes in a handy little pot, which is convenient especially for those who have children as it is hard to get in to for them. I think it looks quite snazzy, considering it is an own branded product, and although it fits in 180 tablets, it is very compact and easy to pop away into cupboards barely taking up any room. They are easy to locate as vitamin C tablets as the outside is bright orange in colour. The tablets themselves are circular, smaller than a penny coin and white in colour.
I have always faced a problem of swallowing tablets growing up, and would always opt for the dissolvable versions of everything. The great thing about these tablets is that there is a chewable packet available which is the ones I purchased. I was a little disappointed as I was expecting them to be soft and chewy similar to the ones I was given as a kid, however they are still hard tablet which you have to bite in to. You can bite them easily, however they are quite powdery so have a drink on hand for after you have eaten them. Despite being slightly flavoured with orange (which is nice), it still has that medicinal taste to it. Alternatively, these are just small enough to swallow down with water as you would a normal tablet so whichever is more convenient for you!
Vitamin C is important as it helps to protect the body's tissues from cell damage. It helps to maintain an overall better defence mechanism within the body and provides you with healthy skin and a good immune system. The body does not produce this vitamin, so it is important that you ensure you are regularly getting some vitamin C through your diet. Obviously, these vitamins are a good way to get some into your body, particularly if you don't get much through diet.
I like to have one of these tablets a day, and I think that this is an acceptable amount to be taking, as too many vitamins can just cause a placebo effect. I would not say that it is the miracle cure for making you healthier and curing illness, however it is a safe, cheap and effective way to protect yourself and family to ensure you are all healthy.
I am more than happy to recommend these vitamin tablets to others, and they do as good a job as any other branded vitamins. The only thing which was a bit disappointing was that despite being chewable, they were quite hard to get down as they are powdery. Other than that, they did help aid my recovery when I was suffering flu regularly and I now consume these every day to keep a fit and healthy lifestyle. Thanks for reading.
Summary: I will buy these again!
