Tesco Childrens Chewable Multi Vitamin
Advantages: Taste OK, children happy to take
Disadvantages: Maybe too sweet
My children have all been poorly with a nasty winter bug this year, and so I became a little worried when they were not eating. We decided we would pick up some multi vitamins for them to make sure they will still getting the vitamins they needed to get better. I had spoken to my health visitor before when my son was refusing to eat and she said it was perfectly fine to give them vitamins to top up their intake, as long as it isn't used for a long time solution. The first time we paid around £1.60 for a pot of 60 tablets. I think this is reasonable especially as there were other similar things for more than double the price. We have recently purchased a new tub but I was only able to find them in a pack of 120 for around £3. They come in forest fruits flavour which to be honest would not have been my first choice if there were different variations available.
I have tried one of these vitamins and they do taste very fruity, but the sweet side of the tablet really takes over. I can see why they would be attractive to children and this seems to work. All of my children are happy to take one, and even my five year old son who does not like take medicine was happy to give them a try. They are orange in colour which confused my children as they expected an orange taste. They are a tablet form rather than a jelly. I was a little worried that chewing them would result in them sticking to your child's teeth, but when I tried one I found they dissolved almost instantly. There was no strange after taste on the whole process was very simple.
These tablets promise to provide vitamins A, C, D and E along with a number of other vitamins and minerals. I was impressed with the percentage as it is a large amount of the recommended dosage for little one. This made me feel a little more at ease with them not eating so much while they were poorly. With a few of the promised vitamins these tablets actually provide 100% of the daily recommended allowance. Now I do not personally use these multi vitamins with my children often, but it does warn if you do so to make sure the child is also receiving a full balanced diet. When I take vitamins I never seem to notice any difference, and it seems to be the same for my children. There are no visual effects, but I do like them to have them while they are sick just to give me peace of mind. I do like to think it helps boost their immune system and fight of the bug but as they had been poorly for a few days anyway it is impossible to tell.
Dosage is one tablet a day for anyone three years and older. Any child under three should not take these vitamins. One downside for me is although they don't particularly look like sweeties; my children still ask if it's time for a sweetie. The sweet taste is perfect for making them fuss free for children, but maybe a little too much. Also the lid is terrible and seems to have no lock on it at all. Sometimes simply placing this into the medicine cupboard results in the lid falling off which can be very dangerous. Of course like with all medicines it should be kept out of reach of children but I do feel you need to take extra care with this poor packaging.
I know that a balanced diet is essential but I just found when my children were unable to eat these eased my worrying a little. There are no outstanding effects but I like to think these are good for boosting the immune system when your child is feeling a little run down. As you receive so many in the packet they do last for a very long time and I would not say they are overly expensive. My children were happy to take them, and it helped give me peace of mind. I would recommend these tablets to anyone looking for a boost for their children. They are made by Tesco so are only available to purchase there.
Summary: Aboost for when my children are poorly
