“ Brand: Tesco / Type: Cod Liver Oil Capsules / Dosage Form: Oil „
I have been taking Tesco Cod Liver Oil Capsules for around a month. I have always taken a vitamin supplement every morning ever since I can remember, but I started taking these as I know there are huge health benefits with fish products, and as I don't eat any fish or seafood products, I decided that this was probably the best way to consume cod liver oil.
I really can't stand the smell or taste of any type of fish and the one thing that really concerned me when I purchased these capsules, having never used them before, was that if I got a taste of fish, they might make me feel a little sick.
This fear got even worse when I saw the size of the capsules - they are huge! They are smooth, yellow coloured capsules with a liquid substance inside. I placed the capsule in my mouth and took a large sip of water, and thankfully the capsule slid down my throat with ease so I didn't get any taste whatsoever, nor did I gag on the size of the capsule. It really did surprise me how easily it did slide down the throat actually.
I haven't any medical issues that would need me to take these, but I know it has benefits that may help me in the future such as lowers blood pressure, reduces heart disease, reduces kidney problems, reduces migraines, protects the arteries from damage and many, many more. Many of these problems don't have symptoms and by the time you find out you have them, it may be too late, so if I can do anything to reduce the chances of getting some of the above, as well as other quite nasty illnesses, then I will take it.
The reason I brought these when I did was because I was purchasing my usual multi-vitamin tablets from Tesco's and I noticed they had a '3 for the price of 2' offer, so I purchased some vitamins for the kids, and used these as my 3rd and therefore free item. You can purchase these capsules in 30, 60 and 90 capsule pots. I went for the 90 to get the most out of the offer and I paid just £1.75 for the 90 capsules. You can also purchase them in 550mg or 1000mg strengths, but as it was the first time I had used these, and the fact that they were half the price, I went for the lower strength ones.
~Do They Work?~
I haven't noticed any specific differences in the way I look or feel, but then this type of product doesn't have obvious benefits such as making your hair or skin look better, nor will they give you more energy. They are mainly used for internal health and helping to prevent certain nasties like those listed above that could affect you in the future and prevention is better than the cure in my book, so although I haven't noticed a difference in the way I feel, I trust that these are doing the job they need to, to help prevent some pretty nasty illnesses and potentially life threatening diseases later on in life.
I haven't had any adverse reactions to these and they are cheap so I will continue to use them alongside my daily multi-vitamin tablet. They look a little daunting but are easy to swallow and are tasteless and they can only do me good and certainly won't do me any harm so therefore they come with a thumbs up from me.
I bought this after researching supplements for skin and hair. Nothing would shift the spots I was getting and my hair needed a boost. Cod Liver oil came up as being beneficial for the immune system, skin repair, good for hair, nails and teeth also good for joints and heart.
Tesco do tubs of various sizes and strengths, I just buy 90 550mg for only £1.75, they do a 1000mg which I might try next time but they're more expensive at £3.50 they do however sell them 3 for 2.
The tub is dark blue and different to the above picture, the capsules themselves are quite small, yellow gelatin cased, easy to swallow and one a day. Have no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives and are free from yeast, milk, wheat, gluten, egg and sugar. They contain fish oil 36% and 35% fish body oil when put like that it doesn't sound too appetizing.
I've been taking these for 12 months regularly, I've been good and rarely miss one. I've felt no benefit from them. My hairs the same, my nails were okay before, and my skin is only better because I found a facewash from Home Bargains that suits me. I know it's the wash and not the cod liver oil because as soon as I used it there was an improvement.
My back still twinges when I've been standing and a few months ago I pulled my arm out (again) taking regular cod liver oil hasn't helped with the healing process because it's still hurting! I still get colds and bugs too- one cold after another it seems at the moment..
I read somewhere that fish oil lubricates the brain and boosts brain power- I'm not boosted..
Honestly I don't know if I've benefited from taking these, who knows if my arm would be worse or my back would ache more often, but I can definitely say that my hair is no stronger or my spots improved.
Maybe it's down to the strength perhaps 1000mg would be more beneficial.
3 stars from me because I'm reviewing the overall capsules which are good quality, a good price and don't repeat on me. My breath doesn't smell and I can't taste fish at all. Other brands I've used do repeat and you can taste fish all day..
Over the past five years ive used so many different brands of cod liver oil in the hope that I would get the success that so many other people get. This brand from tesco which I was able to get on offer which made the product around about 2 pounds which was an absolute steal in comparison to many other bigger brand where you can expect to pay anywhere from 3-5 pounds so this solution to me in a great compromise.
When it come to taking the tablet there the same as any other cod liver oil tablet with their soft outer capsule and there liquid cod liver oil centre which I do find horrible. The only difference with these is I did feel that these were much more smelly that other tablets that id used from the holland and barratt which was slightly off putting. But I would say personally that if I were giving these to my children I really would try and buy the liquid solution to this as a child I found this much more appetising but I do admit this is a much more expensive way of getting the same product unfortunately
When it come to do they actually work I think that these were the best brand of cod liver oil tablet that I have had. These seemed make my joints slightly more agile. But with this being more a life choice than something that makes a huge impact within a few days. This to me means that the I hope that these oil will keep me younger and healthier for longer.
Overall this is a great product is your looking for something that will hopefully improve your joints and bones. But I do have to say I think its one of those things which you need to take for year and year to see real effects.
As a child my brother had to have cod liver oil everyday because he had terrible skin. My parents used to make me have Cod liver oil too, which I never really enjoyed! Recently I have been looking into ways of keeping myself healthy. Living in a flat has taught me that looking after myself is much harder than it used to be at home with my parents. When doing a weekly shop I spotted these on the shelf and thought they were excellent value and much cheaper than I imagined cod liver oil tablets would be. I will now go into more detail on why these are worth getting and the benefits I have found from using them. These are tesco own brand products and only available at tesco stores only.
For £1.29 you receive 60 tablets. These are 1 a day tablets, which means they are a 2 month supply. This makes them excellent value for money and means you will only be spending under £10 for an entire years supply. Some other products on the shelf are £7 for a couple months which makes the tesco own branded cod liver oil tablets and excellent alternative and great value for money. I am happy to pay this for the product.
Do they work/benefits for using them:
I have been using these for over 4 months now, my joints feel fresh and I have noticed a big difference in the condition of my skin. My parents used to tell me as a child that cod liver oil would give me a clever brain, I can't say I have noticed me becoming clever after taking the pills, but I am sure they are having a good effect on my brain in some way. Cod liver oil is excellent for bones and I take it for that reason too, I think there are so many benefits of taking cod liver oil tablets. Although many of the benefits of taking cod liver oil are hidden, I feel that I am in good shape and in good health, this will have been aided by taking the cod liver oil. The tablets themselves are easy to take with a glass of water and I have had no issues with taking these. One a day is easy to do.
I have been very happy with these and I am also happy with the price. I would recommend these to anyone who wants to start taking cod liver oil. I am going to give these a 5 star rating as they are good value and have worked well. The tablets are easy to take and perfect for me. Thanks for reading my review. Josh - jlaker1992
Over the last couple of years I have become more and more health conscious and I am always on health blogs or reading articles about products which can help boost health.
A while ago I came across an article in a health shop magazine which listed all of the benefits of cod liver oil and it really recommended it. I already take daily supplements and thought this would make a good addition to the ones I already take.
After having a look at different brands and being quite shocked at how expensive some were, I decided to try out the Tesco own brand cod liver oil tablets, as these were the cheapest I had come across. For £1.39, I got thirty of the caplets, which I think is amazing value when you compare this price to the branded versions!
Also, this supplement is included in the long term mix and match offer that Tesco has on - any 3 for 2. I admit i did wonder if they would be as good as the more expensive brands, but logically thinking, lets face it - cod liver oil is cod liver oil! You really can't go wrong with these and even if you find they don't work for you or you don't like taking them you will have not wasted very much money.
Cod liver oil, as gross as it sounds (and when I think about it, it actually is a little gross!) has many benefits, or at least there are claims that it has benefits. One of the main benefits is that it has positive effects on the blood. For example it thins the blood which can prevent blood clots and lowers blood pressure, therefor reducing the risk of a heart attack or stroke.
Now I've never had issues with high blood pressure, however blood clots are a common occurrence in my family. Both of my grandparents had them, and my Dad had a stroke due to a clot back in 2009. Though I am active, and therefor reducing my risk of a clot, I liked the idea that this could help a little in minimalising the risk. Cod liver oil also has many other benefits including helping the immune system, fighting inflammation and many more. Fighting inflammation brings me onto the other reason that I bought this - eczema! I am a great believer of healing the body from the inside, and I had heard many great things said bout eczema being healed after people regularly taking cod liver oil.
The cod liver oil caplets come in a little plastic tub which is simply designed and it says clearly what is inside the tub. The caplets themselves are quite small, making them easily to swallow and they have a smooth texture. They are thankfully odourless, and they're an amber yellow sort of colour. They can be pierced open with a needle to get the oil out, which I sometimes do if I want to apply it to my skin. I have done this a few times when my eczema was bad and it was really moisturising and smoothed my skin, though it did smell really fishy!
As for the effects of taking these, I haven't noticed any huge changes in my health and I have been taking them daily, however I have noticed that my skin is a lot smoother and clearer and my eczema hasn't flared up in over a month and is on its way to being completely healed. Obviously I can't say whether or not this supplement has helped thin my blood, or anything like that, but I am sure it is helping at least a little.
I would highly recommend this brand of cod liver oil due to the price and the easy to swallow tablets.
I've had problems with my knees since I was about 18. It's a family trait, but I don't think years of ballet and other dance have helped the problem! I've recently been doing zumba and experiencing pain in my knees. So, on the orders of my mum, I started taking cod liver oil tablets. I popped to Tesco and had a browse of the "supplements" aisle, which is new ground to me! I've never taken (or needed to take!) any form of supplement. I found the cod liver oil capsules... after grimacing at the mere thought of the liquid variety!
They come in a plastic pot with a child safety cap. The pot has changed design since the picture at the top and says "mobility" over the top, with a rather cute picture of some fish swimming underneath. I brought the larger pot that has 90 capsules in it. I purchased the 550mg capsules, although they are also available in 1000mg variety and with all sorts of combinations with other things like multivitamins, calcium etc.
I've been taking these for a few months now, and although I don't always remember to take one every day, I do think they have had a positive effect on my knees. They no longer click at work like they did, which is much less embarrassing! Also, when doing zumba, my knees don't have the same shooting pain that was happening before. Bearing in mind that I could never stand up too quickly, kneel down or any other variety of activity involving my knees, the improvement has been great. They no longer hurt like they used to, which is completely worth it.
The price of these is currently £2.01 for the pot which I purchase, which works out as 2 pence per capsule. I think this is a great price for what it does and how much it has really helped my life! I was expecting them to either smell or taste vile (or both!!) but in capsule form it's fine. You can't taste anything for the short time that it's in your mouth before gulping it down with water. I suspect that the liquid version would be another story altogether though!
Although I've been spouting the benefits on my knees, these capsules also have other benefits. They contain 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vitamin A and D. Vitamin A is important for the maintenance of normal vision and immune system and also skin. I'm hoping that by remembering to take them everyday, that my skin may clear up a bit! Vitamin D is necessary for normal tooth and bone maintenance as well as normal muscle function. So, very useful things indeed!
I would recommend these without a doubt. Great value and great effects.
I'm going to review Tesco own brand cod liver oil capsules.
They come in plastic containers containing 30.....60.....or 90 and are often on special 3 for the price of 2 offer.
The price ranges from £1.30 for 30 ,to £3.80 for the 90 capsule bottle I last bought.
First why I bought them.
Well I'd run out of my usual brand(Seven Seas) and in Tesco the Seven Seas were out of stock ,so I thought I'd give the own brand a try.....simple as that really. And frankly I'm glad I did. They seem to be every bit as effective as the expensive ones. I've been using the own brand since around Christmas & can truthfully say there is no deterioration in my mobility from using the cheaper version, despite the atrocious weather we have had this winter.
I began using cod liver oil tablets two years ago after noticing my knees creaking after exercise. I thought best tackle it before it became a bigger problem and sure enough within a few weeks of starting them I found a benefit. Not life changing by any means, but just generally more limber.
They are one-a-day and each capsule contains Vit A--Vit D--Cod liver oil & fish body oil. So pretty basic really.
Pricewise.....well, with the difference between the price of these & the price of the named brand I can buy toothpaste & basic shower gel,so that makes me a happy bunny.
Would I recommend them? Yes.
I have a distinct memory of my nan popping cod liver oil tablets and wondering what they were and what they were for. Now at only the tender age of 24 I often suffer from really bad knees as whenever I bend them they click and if I don't bend them for a while I feel they get really stiff. After talking about this with my doctor, he recommended me to take some Cod Liver Oil and knowing how yucky it is to take on a teaspoon, tablets sounded the best option. When in Tesco, taking advantage of their 3 for 2 offer (my sister taking the 2!) I picked up the Cod Liver oil tablets.
A bottle of these tablets comes in a vibrant green tub with a matching lid which is child proof which is good. I bought a bottle with 60 tablets which each contain 550mg of cod liver oil. This only costs about £1 so is really good value as I take 1 a day so this lasts 2 months!
The purpose of taking Cod liver oil is to ease the pain and joint stiffness associated with arthritis but can be just as good for general joint help. It can also have a positive effect on heart, bone, helping to repair wounded skin, hair, nails, and teeth. The tablets are the usual kind of cod liver tablets, a goldish/yellow colour and are a short length and a round oval shape. For me, I find them quite easy to take and with a quick gulp of water they actually go down really easily. I usually take one a day (when I remember) and have been taking these a few weeks now.
As for the pain in my knees I do find that my knees click a lot less and I don't get so much pain. Granted I have only been taking these for a small amount of time but I can actually feel the difference! I have heard from my mum that it is meant to help with clear skin but sadly in my case my face feels the same! I have been trying to drink some water to help clear my skin (and of course make up is helpful!) but relying solely on these tablets, thus far it has not been too beneficial.
Overall I have found these Tesco Cod Liver Oil tablets quite good and will probably keep taking them! They are relatively inexpensive, easy to swallow and so I can't think of any reason not to recommend them! Just probably take them for a while if you want to see some fab skin results.
Now there is lots of speculations as to whether vitamin supplements are beneficial at all to our health and whether or not we are just wasting our money buy buying them. I still buy these cod liver oil tablet despite this debate as I see no harm in at least trying it considering they are so cheap. if they work then great, if they don't work then at least I haven't really missed out on much as the investment is so small.
You take one of these tablets which is about the size of your index finger fingernail once a day, preferably with a meal. this means that assuming you don't forget to take the tablet, you will get about 2 months out of each bottle.
The benefits of taking these tablets according to the bottle are improved skin, bones and teeth and the most well-known benefit is improvement to joints. I initially bought these tablets as I do karate and this can be very wearing on joints, my wrists essentially cracked and my joints often felt stiff. I have been taking these for about 2 years now and my joints are not so bad. I am not sure whether or not these are actually helping as I haven't been training as much as I used to either and this could also be a factor leading to my improved joints, but the tablets certainly haven't hurt me in any way.
These tablets are 500 milligrams. The average I usually see is about 300 mg so these are quite a bit stronger than usual. I have also seen and tried 1000 mg tablets however these tablets are enormous and unless you are used to taking the can be difficult to swallow - the 1000 mg tablets are about 3 or 4 centimetres in length and 1 centimetre across. These tablets, in comparison, are only about half than and therefore are much easier to swallow.
When I was younger, my mother would always have taken vitamins and supplements and always liked natural remedies, I never thought I would end up taking a handful of supplements in the morning, but when, several years ago, my knees started to get quite painful when walking up and down stairs or when I was crouching down, and I started to take glucosamine supplements which have been amazing. My husband has always taken cod liver oil, which I got for him in Boots, but when I realised that he took them to help keep his joints 'well oiled', I decided to join him in taking one each day. I also started to purchase my vitamins and supplements at Tesco as they had a three for two offer, as well as being better value than Boots.
The Cod Liver oil tablets that Tesco produce come in a white bottle with a green plastic lid, so you can quite easily pick them out on a shelf of vitamins. A bottle of 60 capsules, each of 550mg costs just over £1, which I think is very good value. On the front of the bottle, it states that these cod liver oil capsules are used to 'maintain mobility and flexibility'. Cod Liver Oil has been confirmed by research as being beneficial for the joints, and has also been found to be delay (or reverse) the destruction of join cartilage and other pain associated with arthritis.
I am not good at all at taking tablets at all, but since these oil capsules have a smoothness to the outside of them they make it very easy to swallow them, which is even better for me since they are about the length of a ten pence coin.
I have been taking these tablets for a couple of months now, and from what I understand it isn't that you would necessarily see the benefits in the short term, but rather it has the positive benefits on the long term condition of your joints. I take these tablets alongside my glucosamine tablets and I don't have any pain in my knees at all, but it is hard to know how much of this pain relief can be accounted for by the glucosamine, and how much from cod liver oil.
All in all, I am perfectly happy with these tablets, but I cannot currently confirm their effectiveness, but I can only assume they are doing what they have been proven to do, and that is help oil my joints! They are a good price, they are easy to swallow and therefore easy to take. I would recommend these for anyone looking for a good, cheap way of keeping your joints healthy.
I originally picked these capsules up a few weeks ago, after doing some research about Cod Liver Oil online, and the potential benefits of it. I have been having some issues with my skin lately, and thought these capsules might give it a bit of a boost. Aside from the benefits Cod Liver Oil can have on your skin, it can also be useful for healthy joints, and strong bones and teeth, so I thought it would definitely be worth trying.
The packaging of these capsules comes in a bright green bottle, which is extremely eye catching on the shelf. It has a child proof lid which always comes in handy, and generally feels quite sturdy. It also has an illustration of a woman stretching (presumably to show how supple your joints will be after taking them!).
I chose to get the bottle containing 60 capsules, although they are also available in 30 and 90. I thought that 60 would be just enough to start testing them out, and seeing if they have any positive effects.
What's in the capsules?
Each capsule contains...
Cod Liver Oil and Fish Body Oil 550.0 mg
Vitamin A & D 100% RDA
Omega 3 Fatty Acids 120.0 mg
EPA 60.0 mg
DHA 50.0 mg
Now, I'm not a health professional, so I can't exactly say what the benefit of each of these vitamins and supplements are. I know that Vitamin A is important in keeping your skin healthy, and apparently EPA has anti-inflammatory properties. I can't really tell you much more than that though! Obviously I try to have a fairly healthy diet alongside taking these supplements, and I usually have a couple of portions of vegetables a day. I'm definitely not the healthiest person around though!
Have I noticed any improvements?
I have been taking Cod Liver Oil for around 2 weeks, so I'll talk about what I've noticed so far. With regards to having healthier joints, I can't say I've really noticed anything! I have never had any particular problems with them though, but nothing really feels more supple. In terms of my skin, I definitely think it looks a little brighter, even after just two weeks. It seems to have more of a glow to it than it did previously, so I'm really pleased about that. I don't feel that it has had any real benefit on my blemishes though, my problem skin is still there (I have a feeling this might be hormonal though, and in that case, I wouldn't expect these to have any great benefit). I'm a little frustrated, as my skin has been fairly good in the past, and I can't understand why it is breaking out all of a sudden! These supplements definitely haven't had any detrimental effects on my health, and I think it's important to make sure I am getting enough Vitamins A & D into my diet. I think I'll keep taking these in the future, to see if the overall tone of my skin improves.
These supplements are only for adults and children over 12, and it says to have one a day, preferably with a meal. The capsules are of a medium size, and I certainly didn't find them too hard to swallow. If you are worried about the size though, there is an illustration on the side of the packet with the actual size.
A bottle of 60 capsules currently costs £1.15, which I think is extremely reasonable. Tesco are currently offering a 3 for 2 offer as well.
