Advantages: 98p tasty, refreshing and full of vitamin c

Disadvantages: Still haven't found any

When the weather starts to change and the cold and flu viruses start to raise their miserable heads then it's time to grab the vitamin c!

So what does it do? One 1000mg tablet a day helps support your body's natural defences.

I discovered the Tesco Effervescent Vitamin C drink about 4 years ago, in fact a friend recommended it to me. I was very impressed the first time I tried it, i just added one tablet to a tumbler glass of water and it dissolves within a minute. The taste is really nice sparkling drink, orange in flavour, and it's very refreshing. Once dissolved the tablet doesn't leave a powdery taste and you wouldn't actually guess, if someone just handed you a ready made glass, that it was made from a dissolvable tablet.

This product is suitable for vegetarians and it doesn't contain any gluten, egg, sugar, yeast or milk.

The ingredients are

(taken from tesco website)

Acidity Regulators (Citric Acid, Sodium Bicarbonate), Vitamin C, Sweeteners (Sorbitol, Mannitol, Sodium Saccharin), Flavourings (Maltodextrin, Dextrin, Acacia, Citric Acid, Glyceryl Triacetate, Acetic Acid), Anti-Caking Agent (Maize Starch), Colours (Riboflavin-5'-Phosphate, Beta-Carotene (Glucose Syrup, Starch Sodium Octenyl Succinate, Triglycerides of Middle Chain Fatty Acids, Sodium Ascorbate, DL-Alpha-Tocopheryl, Tricalcium Phosphate)).

My rating.

I have been using these on off for about 4 years now, the taste is nice and refreshing, its not time consuming to make and there are no funny aftertastes.

I have tried other brands of these vitamin c tablets but have found they tasted very artificial, not particularly refreshing and slightly bitty in substance.

I have found the Tesco version to be quite a bit cheaper than other leading brands. Boots own brand sells at £2.49 compare that to Tesco at just 98p!

They are easy to find in the vitamin section.

OK so I can't prove that these are actually effective, but at 98p for 20 tablets and a great taste it's worth taking them just in case they are helping.

Summary: Give them a go this year, see if you have a healthier winter.
