I started my new job couple of weeks ago and had to start using this phone. Let's start with saying that it looks like a good business phone with a big display screen, which has the date and time at the top left, followed by your extension number on the right hand side. In the middle section of the display you will be able to see the Cisco sign and number of missed calls you may have or the phone number which your speaking to. On the bottom of the display you have the Redial, New call, Message and Call forward option. There are bottoms under the display which operate the above, which gives you the illusion as to it's easy to use, however don't be fooled by the way this phone looks. It's a very difficult phone to get use to. It took me 5 weeks to learn how to transfer numbers to different extensions. The phone is meant to be a very sophisticated with great technology but it's a shame that we can't use it. I've yet to find any user manual on the internet for this, to explain any of the functions and how to set anything up such as speed dialing etc. For a phone which is suppose to have VOIP it doesn't seem to want to the do the basic phone functions, so I don't know how good it would be over the internet. Dont use this phone if you value your time!
We moved offices at work and were given these phones to replace our old handsets. I have no idea about SKYPE or any business decision behind them so can only review from a user's persepctive. This is a big handset with quite a few buttons and a big display. It tells you your name, extension and the time and date on the display which is quite helpful and it also tells you who is calling (the number and name if it knows it) when the phone rings. It looks like it should be simple to use, there are buttons just under the screen which correspond to actions displayed on the screen however nothing seems to work quite as it should. After a couple of months of reading manuals and using the phones we've just about worked out how to pick up a call on the same line that someone has answered but still can't work out how to transfer it to a different number. I'm sure that after some time we'll get used to it and it will become second nature but I really think it should be more intuitive than it is and the instructions haven't come in helpful yet.
This is one excellent product/idea that will open up a great opportunity for businesses and open sectors like hospitals. With the use of internet, this will enable you to make free Skype to Skype calls where ever in the world, for as long as you like. Just type in skype in google to find out more!!! do it!!! this product will make a lot of sense once you read up on the skype site. Like i said, it will open up a wonderful opportunity for businesses. For example, a business of any type that has offices in a building, if they are able to implement such a product into their building, then they can say good bye to telephone bills and make use of their existing internet. From within any office building, you are required to communicate within the building to get things done. If 20 employees working on the same project were scattered accros the building in different offices, they could each have one of these, and use the internet to stay connect with each other in a call conference or even video conference if they buy webcams. Best of all, it wont cost the company any more on bills.
